CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team makes its third-ever appearance at the Southern Conference Tournament this weekend when it takes on Upstate rival Wofford Saturday morning at Fleming Gym in Greensboro, N.C. The two teams square off in the opening match of the first round at 9:30 a.m.
The Bulldogs are in search of their sixth all-time victory against the Terriers, who they last defeated on Nov. 5, 2011. The units have twice met on a neutral court, most recently at the Charleston Southern Tournament in 2012, with each team winning once.
The Citadel's previous two showings in the SoCon Tournament came in 2005 and 2006. The Bulldogs, under the direction of then-head coach's Wendy Anderson and Carolyn Geiger, suffered setbacks to Wofford and UNCG, respectively.
The Cadets completed the 2014 regular season with an 8-25 overall record. Leading the way statistically for the Dogs are
Bailey Kernodle (250 kills),
Amanda Rudnik (286 digs) and
Lauren Hurt (73 total blocks).
The eighth-seeded Terriers are at 12-21 overall. Wofford is led on offense by Taylor Baird (404 kills) and Bella Santoro (321). Defensively, the Terriers are highlighted by the duo of Jessica Graham (523 digs) and Danni Densford (81 total blocks).
