CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team returns to the court on Tuesday when it heads to Orangeburg to take on in-state rival South Carolina State at 6 p.m.
The Citadel (3-7) is seeking its 16
th victory in the all-time series with Bulldogs, who they have defeated in five of the last six meetings.
The Dogs are lead offensively by the tandem of
Moriah Smith (64 kills) and
Bailey Kernodle (62). Kernodle is coming off a weekend in which she earned all-tournament honors at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup 2, hosted by Alabama State, joining teammates
Mallory Moore (Kristen Dickmann Invitational) and
Moriah Smith (The Citadel Invitational) as the only Bulldogs to earn all-tournament recognition for their efforts.
The defensive trio of
Amanda Rudnik (139 digs),
Megan Sowell (81 digs) and
Lauren Hurt (16 total blocks) have proved to be valuable assets for The Citadel as they hold their opponents to 12.4 kills per set.
South Carolina State (0-10) suffered a series of setbacks to Charleston Southern, USC Upstate and Jacksonville University at the Charleston Southern Tournament this weekend.
The Bulldogs statistical leaders include Marissa Lawrence (77 kills), Tyler Ockleberry (126 digs) and Kirby Anderson (18 total blocks).
