The Citadel Volleyball Tournament Set to Begin Friday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – For the third time in four seasons, The Citadel volleyball team will host an in-season tournament at McAlister Field House. The two-day session, which begins on Friday afternoon, includes Charleston Southern, N.C. A&T, Stetson and the host Bulldogs.
 
The opening match of the tournament, sponsored by Sticky Fingers, will feature Stetson and Charleston Southern at 4 p.m. The Citadel follows with a match against N.C. A&T at 6 p.m. The Cadets return to the court on Saturday to play Stetson and Charleston Southern at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
 
The Bulldogs (1-2) are looking to move to .500 on the season and extend their winning streak to five matches against N.C. A&T. Freshman Moriah Smith leads the way for The Citadel on offense with 21 kills, while senior Amanda Rudnik highlights the defense with 44 digs.
 
Charleston Southern (1-2) enters the weekend with a recent 3-1 victory over Norfolk State at the James Madison Classic. The duo of Meredith Parrott and Siraya Windsor top the Bucs in kills with 47 and 38, respectively. Parrott also made her presence felt with nine blocks (four solo), while Taylor Allman added 49 digs.
 
N.C. A&T (0-4) visits Charleston after suffering a series of setbacks to Chicago State, Wright State, Akron and Indiana State last weekend. The Aggies trio of Aleena McDaniel (34), Te'Borah Hawkins (30) and Brooke Stamnes (30) lead the way in kills. Setter Liz Martino, who dished out 100 assists at the Indiana State Holiday Inn Classic earned all-tournament honors for her performance.
 
Stetson (2-1) opened its season with wins over McNeese State and Bethune-Cookman before falling in four sets to Florida Atlantic. McKenna Foster (35 kills) and Madison Akins (33 kills) highlight the Hatters' offensively, while Michelle Kastner (29 digs) anchors Stetson's defensive.
