Bulldogs Return to Mat Wednesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team will return to the mat inside McAlister Field House on Wednesday evening fresh off of a 21-14 victory over SoCon rival VMI on Saturday. The Bulldogs will host Anderson University at 6 p.m.
The Citadel (1-0, 1-0) faced a tough test on Saturday against VMI, trailing for most of the match before taking control of the contest by sweeping the last three weight classes. Ty Buckiso (1-0), Matt Frisch (1-0) and Aaron Walker (1-0) all got their first win of the season by decision and gave The Citadel a brief 9-7 lead heading into the 165-lb bout. VMI would take the next two and take a 14-9 lead with three weight classes remaining. The Bulldogs' Sawyer Root (6-0), Marshall Haas (1-0) and Joe Bexley (1-0) all won by major decision to seal the victory for The Citadel in front of a huge Homecoming crowd.
Multiple Trojan wrestlers competed in The Citadel Open on Nov. 1, including Michael Gallagher who finished 4-1 on the day and in third place at 184 pounds. Freshman Dan Ebert also competed at The Citadel Open and recorded a 4-2 record at 157. Anderson comes into the Wednesday match up after dropping three duals on Saturday to three Division I opponents. The South Atlantic Conference member is currently 0-3 on the year.
