Bulldogs Announce 2015-16 Schedule

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team has announced its slate for the 2015-16 season, head coach Rob Hjerling announced Monday.

"I think this schedule has a high level of competition between the tournaments and duals," Coach Hjerling said. "It has many levels of opponents that will challenge all of our wrestlers. I'm expecting to see a lot of success."

The Bulldogs will begin the season on Nov. 1 as they host and compete unattached in The Citadel Open. An early conference dual will follow on Nov. 7, where The Citadel will take on VMI in the Bruegger's Bagels Wakeup Takedown Challenge at 9 a.m. inside McAlister Field House on Homecoming weekend.

The Bruegger's Bagels Wakeup Takedown Challenge will showcase the Southern Conference rivalry between the two military colleges while welcoming The Citadel's alumni as they support the stand-out Bulldogs wrestling program. The wrestling match will be followed by the 2 p.m. football game against VMI at Johnson Hagood Stadium.

The Citadel will host Anderson on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. before traveling to NC State for the Wolfpack Open on Nov. 22. The squad will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational on Dec. 4-5 before rounding out the calendar year at home against Limestone at 2 p.m. on Dec. 18.

The Bulldogs will open 2016 at the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Virginia Duals will follow on Jan. 8-9, where The Citadel will compete against three teams to be announced at a later date.

Southern Conference competition will come back into action on Jan. 17 when the team takes on SIU-Edwardsville and non-conference opponent Northern Illinois in a double-header at Edwardsville.

The competition returns to McAlister Field House on Jan. 20, when the Bulldogs take on Appalachian State at 6 p.m. A conference dual at Campbell follows on Jan. 28.

The 2015-16 All Academy Championships will be hosted by VMI on Jan. 30 in Lexington. The Bulldogs compete on the road against Gardner-Webb on Feb. 5 and Davidson on Feb. 7 before returning to Charleston to wrestle Chattanooga on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. Regular-season competition will come to a close on Feb. 21 when the Bulldogs host UNC at 2 p.m.

The 2016 SoCon Wrestling Championships will be held at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena in Asheville, North Carolina, on March 5. Competition begins at 10 a.m. and finals will follow at 7 p.m. All rounds will be streamed live on the SoCon Digital Network and live results can be found at TrackWrestling.com.

The NCAA Championships will be on March 17-19 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Bulldogs return three previous NCAA qualifiers in Matt Frisch, Aaron Walker and Marshall Haas.
