CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team will head onto its final road trip of the regular season, visiting UNCG on Friday and Wofford on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (8-20, 1-11 SoCon) will face both UNCG (14-10, 8-3 SoCon) and Wofford (14-13, 6-6 SoCon) for the second time this season after falling to each in four sets at home just over a month ago.
In their last match, the Bulldogs took Chattanooga to five sets at McAlister Field House, coming within one point of defeating the Mocs. In a wild back-and-forth match, The Citadel fell in extra points 16-14.
The Bulldogs are on the verge of multiple individual career and season records this season. Libero
Samantha Espy has totaled 1,361 career digs and is just 90 short of breaking the program record set by Rachel Sanders (2005-08). Espy already owns the top two single-season digs records with 556 in 2015 and 451 this year.
Middle hitter
Sarah Dobrich has recorded 83 block assists this season, just five away from setting a new single-season record for the Bulldogs. Lauren Hurt set the record of 87 in 2012. Additionally, outside hitter
Moriah Smith has amassed 413 kills this season, needing 20 more to pass Rachel Sanders' 2007 record. Smith currently has the second and third most kills in a season in program history.
As a team, the Bulldogs rank first in the Southern Conference in total digs (1,718), second in service aces (139) and third in total kills (1,262) and total assists (1,191).
The Bulldogs' match at UNCG in Greensboro, North Carolina is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Friday. They return to the court on Saturday, visiting Wofford in Spartanburg, South Carolina at 2 p.m. Live video and stats will be available for both matches.
