Box Score 2 STATESBORO, Ga. – The Citadel volleyball team split its first two matches of the Bash In The 'Boro, sweeping Savannah State in the opener and falling to Jacksonville State in three sets Thursday.
The Bulldogs earned their first sweep of the season, defeating Savannah State 25-22, 25-11 and 26-24.
Outside hitter
Carla Bruce led the team offensively with 10 kills. Fellow outside hitter
Moriah Smith finished with nine kills on 19 attacks, recording a season-best .421 hitting percentage.
The Bulldogs hit .148 for the match, but held the Tigers to a .036 hitting percentage. Defensively, middle hitter
Sarah Dobrich recorded four block assists to lead all players. Libero
Samantha Espy had a team-high 12 digs and setter
Logan Smith posted 24 assists.
In the third set, the Bulldogs trailed late, but responded with four straight points to take the set and the match.
The win moved the Bulldogs to 3-1 for the first time since 2011. They now own a 25-match win streak over Savannah State.
In match two, the Bulldogs were defeated in straight sets 25-22, 25-18 and 25-19.
Moriah Smith led all players with 18 kills, finishing with a .267 hitting percentage. Smith also paced the Bulldogs with 13 digs, recording her fourth double-double of the season.
The Bulldogs hit .157 for the match and had seven service aces. Dobrich posted three more block assists and
Logan Smith had 27 assists.
The Citadel will continue play at the Bash in the 'Boro on Friday against Charleston Southern at 3 p.m.
