CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team will travel to Cullowhee, North Carolina, to compete in the 2017 Southern Conference Volleyball Championship hosted by Western Carolina beginning Friday, Nov. 17.
The Bulldogs are the No. 9 seed in the tournament and will face eighth-seeded Mercer in a play-in-game, with first serve set for 9:30 a.m. The winner will continue on to face top-ranked Furman at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon in a quarterfinal match.
The first conference win came on Sept. 22 when the Bulldogs defeated Samford 3-0 in Birmingham, Ala. for the first program win in history over Samford. The second conference win for the Bulldogs was a 3-2 win over Mercer at home in McAlister Field House on Oct. 20, another first in program history.
Freshman
Sharlissa De Jesus became the first lady Bulldog in program history voted to the SoCon's all-freshman team on Nov. 14. She led the team in the regular season with 347 kills, the fifth most for The Citadel in a single-season. Sophomore
Sarah Dobrich set a new single-season program record as the lead blocker for the Bulldogs with 129 total blocks, and senior
Moriah Smith led the squad in total attacks with 1,019.
