CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel baseball team fell 7-3 against Georgia Southern on Tuesday night at Joe Riley Park.

The Eagles (11-9) jumped out to a four-run lead through three and a half innings after runs in the second, third and fourth innings. The Bulldogs (7-13) cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fourth when Ben Peden scored on an error by the shortstop with two outs.

In the sixth inning with the Bulldogs down 6-1, J.D. Davis came through with a clutch two-out two-RBI single to score William Kinney and Barrett Charpia.

Clay Martin and Joe Sabatini led the offense with two hits each. Martin reached base in all five at-bats, finishing 2-for-2 with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. The junior lead-off man paces the team with 21 walks and a .433 on-base percentage.

Alex Bialakis drew the start, striking out five batters over four innings, allowing four runs. Will Pillsbury had a strong outing in relief after settling in after his first inning. The freshman southpaw struck out five batters over three innings and at one point set down eight straight Georgia Southern hitters. Ryan Stamler and Morgan Foulks each pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth, respectively.

The Bulldogs continue play against Georgia Southern, traveling down to Statesboro, Georgia, on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. with live stats and video links available at CitadelSports.com.
