Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team defeated Alabama A&M and Jacksonville State for a perfect 2-0 start at the Bulldog Invitational on Friday, Sept. 15 hosted in McAlister Field House.
 
The Citadel kicked off the tournament against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. The Bulldogs took the first set 25-19 before dropping the second set to A&M, 25-20. Led by senior Moriah Smith with 15 kills, The Citadel secured the 3-1 victory by winning sets three and four 25-22, 25-17.
 
The Bulldogs were well rested when they took on the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs took set one 25-23 before falling to the Gamecocks in the second set 25-23. Freshman Mellanie King was the lead attacker for the Bulldogs with 16 kills, allowing them to dominate sets three and four to close out the day with another 3-1 victory.
 
On Saturday, The Citadel meets for the second time this season with Winthrop after the Bulldogs dropped the match 3-1 in the ECU Invitational on Sept. 8. The Eagles are 6-5 this season after recently defeating Jacksonville State on Friday. The Bulldogs will face Charleston Southern in the last match of the tournament Saturday, Sept. 16. The Eagles have a 4-8 record and are now on a three-match win streak after defeating Alabama A&M on Friday.
 
The match against Winthrop is set for 2:00 p.m. and Charleston Southern's match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ESPN3 will live stream the weekend's events and live stats for all matches will be available on CitadelSports.com.
