LEXINGTON, Va. – A two-point conversion pass sailed out of the back of the end zone to give The Citadel a thrilling, 34-32, victory over VMI to secure the Silver Shako Saturday afternoon at Foster Stadium. The victory was the 12
th-straight for the Bulldogs over the Keydets.

How it Happened
- The Bulldogs wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as they marched 75 yards on the opening drive to reach the end zone.
- The nine-play drive ended with Grant Drakeford taking the pitch and racing up the middle for the 25-yard touchdown.
- The teams would exchange touchdowns the rest of the first half and go into halftime tied 14-14.
- The Bulldogs second touchdown came on a one-yard run from Clay Harris. The drive was set up by a blocked punt by Sean-Thomas Faulkner.
- The defense started the second half by stopping VMI on downs in their own territory. The Bulldogs took advantage of the short field and used seven plays to cover the 33 yards. Jordan Black covered the final six yards for his first touchdown of the game.
- VMI would reach the endzone late in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs were able to penetrate the line and block the kick.
- Black found his way to the end zone for the second time on the day when he closed out the third quarter by going around right end for a 71-yard touchdown.
- The Citadel pushed its lead to 31-20 after Jacob Godek connected on a 37-yard field goal.
- The Keydets were able to reach the end zone, but the defense was able to stop the two-point conversion.
- The defense helped to push the lead back to eight points as Willie Eubanks, III picked off a pass and returned it 18 yards to the VMI 17.
- Godek kicked his second field goal of the game, this time from 27 yards out.
- With just over 30 seconds to play, VMI scored a touchdown to pull within two points. On the ensuing two-point play, the ball sailed high and incomplete.
- The Citadel recovered the onside kick to secure the victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Jordan Black became the third different Bulldog to have a 100-yard rushing performance by running for 155 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.
- It is his third-straight game with two rushing touchdowns. He has four total games this season with two rushing scores.
- His 71-yard touchdown in the third quarter marked the second-straight season the Bulldogs scored on a run of 71 yards against VMI. Grant Drakeford raced 72 yards against the Keydets in 2017.
- As a team, The Citadel rushed for 335 yards on 63 attempts. Lorenzo Ward carried 18 times for 67 yards, and Drakeford added 60 yards on six carries.
- Sean-Thomas Faulkner blocked a punt in the first half. It was the second blocked punt of the season for the Bulldogs.
- The Bulldogs also blocked an extra point. It was their first block since Kevin Graham blocked one at VMI in 2016.
- Willie Eubanks, III led the defense with 12 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. He returned the interception 18 yards and the fumble 10 yards.
- Aron Spann, III forced a fumble in the first half and intercepted a pass in the second half.
- Freshman Mason Kinsey recorded a pair of sacks.
- Khafari Buffalo was credited with seven tackles and three pass break-ups.
