CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel men's basketball team's seven-game winning streak came to a close Saturday afternoon as the Longwood Lancers defeated the Bulldogs, 110-94, with a potent offense that saw the Lancers shoot over 50 percent from both the field and 3-point range.

KEY STATS
- Longwood jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Jaylon Wilson made a layup nearly 1:30 into action, but the Bulldogs controlled the early going from there as Zane Najdawi tied the score at 2-all with a layup nearly 11 seconds later before Kaelon Harris gave The Citadel its first lead of the day with a fast-break layup.
- With 13:51 to go in the first half, Longwood retook the lead off a layup by Pernell Adgel, part of a 15-0 run that saw the Lancers establish an 11-point, 24-13 lead with 12:00 to play in the opening stanza.
- With 7:55 to play in the first half, the Longwood lead was 16, 34-18, as JaShaun Smith hit a 3-pointer.
- The Bulldogs managed to regroup in the closing minutes of the first half, ending the period on a 9-2 run highlighted by five points from Alex Reed.
- The Bulldogs came out on fire in the second half, spurred by four 3-pointers from Matt Frierson. The senior guard, who was held scoreless in the first half, exploded for 17 points in the second half, including a 3-pointer that gave the Bulldogs a 3-point, 63-60 lead with 14:01 to play in regulation.
- However, Shabooty Phillips hit a matching three on the other end of the court and Jordan Cintron gave Longwood the lead back for good with a layup a few minutes later.
- The Lancers never trailed from there, but The Citadel kept the game within reach until 2:28 to go when Isaiah Walton hit a pair of free throws to make it an 11-point, 102-91 game.
- Longwood shot a blistering 56.3 percent (36-of-64) from the field for the game and connected on 50.0 percent (16-of-32) of the 3-point attempts.
- The Citadel shot 42.5 percent (31-of-73) from the field, but hit on just 28.9 percent (13-of-45) of their 3-point attempts.
- The game was marred by 30 total turnovers, including 16 by Longwood. The Citadel turned the 16 Longwood turnovers into 21 points.
NOTABLES
- The Bulldogs' 8-3 record in non-conference games is the best since the 2001-02 team went 8-3 before Southern Conference play.
- Longwood came into Saturday's game averaging 67.6 points per game while allowing just 62.2 points per contest.
- For the sixth-straight game, three of the Bulldogs' starting five players finished the game with double-digit points. Lew Stallworth led the 'Dogs with 23 points and Najdawi and Frierson each had 17.
- Najdawi ended the game with 17 points and 14 rebounds, marking the 12 double-double of his career and third the season.
- Najdawi moved up in The Citadel record book in multiple categories, Saturday. He went from 10th to eighth in scoring with 1,371 career points, moved up from 12th to 11th in career field goals made with 468, moved up from 12th to eighth in career offensive rebounds with 215 and moved up from 10th to ninth in career total rebounds with 600.
- Najdawi had three blocks Saturday afternoon, marking the 47th career game he has tallied multiple blocks. He now has 166 career blocks, second-most in program history.
- With his 17 points Saturday against Longwood, Frierson is just five points away from hitting the 1,000 career point mark.
- Frierson ended the game with five 3-pointers, marking the 35th game of his career, 11th this season, that the senior guard has converted at least four 3-pointers. He has now made at least one 3-pointer in 50 straight games.
- Stallworth had another outstanding game as he led the Bulldogs with 23 points and seven assists. He now has 83 assists on the year, a mark that has him 35 outside of the top 15 in program history for assists in a single season. He has 299 career assists.
- With his 16 points against the Lancers, Kaiden Rice now has 285 career points.
- Rice converted four 3-pointers Saturday afternoon, giving him 69 for his career. It was the fifth time this season, eighth in his career, that Rice has converted at least four treys.
COMING UP
The Citadel will next jump back into Southern Conference action with a pair of road games at Wofford (Jan. 3) and Furman (Jan. 5) next weekend. The Bulldogs will first head to Spartanburg for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Thursday against the Terriers before tangling with the Paladins at 4 p.m. two days later.
