SUMTER, S.C. –
The Citadel men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference tennis matches in Sumter on Saturday as part of their Spring Break trip. The Bulldogs started the day off by taking a 6-2 win over Eastern Florida State College before falling 4-0 to Appalachian State.

"Today was filled with a lot of good matchups in both matches," said head coach Chuck Kriese. "Obviously, starting the day off with the win over Eastern Florida State was good for our guys. We had tough matchups up and down and it really was a good, hard-fought battle. In our second match, you have to give credit to App State. They are a very good team and battled us hard all the way to the end. Unfortunately, we weren't able to finish up that match, but seeing our guys battle and seeing the way they continued to fight after having just played a match, it shows that they are getting it."

The Bulldogs (8-18) started the day off by taking a match 6-2 over Eastern Florida State College (1-2) despite being delayed by rain in the Sumter area.

Stewart claimed a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Mushonga, van Zyl took the No. 3 point 6-0, 6-1 over Weis.
