UNC Asheville comes off a 13-15 record from the 2017 season and is led by standout senior
Cara Guthrie. Guthrie, most recently named to the Preseason All-Big South Team, started in all 28 matches for the Bulldogs and recorded a team high 391 kills to go along with 33 service aces on the year.
Coppin State is led by head coach
Tim Walsh, who led the Eagles to four conference wins in the 2017 season. The Eagles welcomed 11 newcomers to the 2018 roster. The Citadel has faced off against CSU three times in program history and leads the series 3-0.
Last Time Out for The Citadel: The Citadel claimed a victory in an exhibition last Saturday against West Virginia State. The team compiled 15 blocks in the match with
Sarah Dobrich leading the charge with five. The Bulldogs served up 12 aces in the first contest of the season, led by returners
Sharlissa de Jesus and
Megan Fuhr with four.
Dave Zelenock on the Upcoming Season: "This weekend will be a good experience for the whole team as we start to put the new systems into place. We have a lineup in mind for Appalachian State and we will keep doing what works and make changes on the things that don't.
"Our freshman had a good scrimmage, usually there are some jitters the first time you put the jersey on, but this group didn't seem rattled by that. They are going to keep getting better all year and we expect all three to contribute in a big way this year."
