Kaelon Harris finished with a double-double to lead The Citadel basketball team, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs fell, 85-57, at Illinois Wednesday night.

KEY STATS
- The two sides opened the game with each team missing their first few shots. Illinois missed its first three field goal attempts, while the Bulldogs opened the game 0-2, but the Illini managed to edge out to a 2-0 lead with a field goal just over a minute into the game.
- Eddie Davis, III gave the Bulldogs their only lead of the game a few seconds later as he drilled a 3-pointer to make it 3-2, but Illinois went on a 7-0 run to retake the lead for good.
- Davis managed to score five of the Bulldogs' first seven points, cutting the deficit to just four at 11-7 before Illinois opened up another run, this time 13-0.
- Illinois took a 34-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- The Bulldogs struggled from the field in the first half, connecting on just 19.4% (7-of-36) of their attempts from the field, including making just three of their 18 3-pointers (.167) in the stanza.
- Despite the struggles offensively, the Bulldogs did manage to hold Illinois to 0-for-8 from beyond the arc in the first half and forced four Illinois turnovers.
- The second half saw the Illini stretch things out to as many as 31, 76-45 with 6:22 left to play.
- Despite being undersized compared to Illinois, the Bulldogs continued to fight and managed to cut the lead to as few as 14, 54-40 with 12:22 left when Fletcher Abee hit one of his two 3-pointers.
- The Bulldogs bounced back from their first half struggles to shoot 36.8% (14-of-38) from the field in the second half, including 35.0% (7-of-20) from beyond the arc.
- The Illini managed to shoot 48.5% (33-of-68) from the field for the game.
- Illinois benefitted from taking 21 free throw attempts compared to just seven by The Citadel.
- Harris led the 'Dogs with 19 points and 10 boards for his second-straight double-double. The senior played 36 minutes and corralled in six offensive boards.
- Freshman Rudy Fitzgibbons, III matched his career high with nine points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to go along with a couple of assists.
- Kofi Cockburn led a trio of Illinois players in double-digit scoring with 18 points and an Illinois freshman single-game record 17 rebounds.
NOTABLES
- Harris recorded a double-double in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. The last time a Bulldog recorded a double-double in consecutive games, Lew Stallworth had 20 points and 12 assists at home against UNCG last season (Feb. 28) and followed that up with 21 points and 10 rebounds at VMI (March 2).
- Harris has now recorded four double-doubles, including three this season.
- Davis started his first game for the Bulldogs as he made his first start since the 2017-18 season, when he started 20 contests for Southern Miss. The start was the 38th of Davis' career.
- Abee led the Bulldogs with three assists, matching his career high.
- Freshman Brady Spence played 17 minutes Wednesday night, a career high for the Douglasville, Georgia native. He also recorded his first career block and had a career-high three rebounds.

Fans attending ticketed athletic events at The Citadel this year are reminded of the new clear bag policy that has been implemented. Under the policy, fans will be allowed to bring with them a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a one-gallon plastic bag (such as Ziploc or Hefty bags).
