Yosue Earns All-SoCon Second-Team, All-Freshman Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the first time since 2014, The Citadel women's soccer team was represented on one of the two All-Southern Conference teams as freshman Suzuka Yosue earned All-SoCon Second-Team honors, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

A freshman from Osaka, Japan, Yosue was also named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team.

The post-season awards were voted on by the conference's coaches.

"Suzuka has been one of the most dangerous attackers in the SoCon this year. These recognitions are a testament to not only her personal quality, but also her work rate and level of professionalism," said head coach Ciaran Traquair. "She started the year setting the bar high with the fitness tests and then ended the year matching records as a freshman. She is a great teammate who always puts the team first in her approach to the game. I have enjoyed watching her grow this season and I look forward to seeing her develop in the future. This is another major step for our program and highlights the type of player we want to continue to recruit to The Citadel."

Yosue is the ninth player in program history to earn All-SoCon honors. The last All-SoCon honor for the Bulldogs was Vanessa Aponte, who picked up second-team plaudits in 2014.

Yosue's SoCon All-Freshman honor marks the second-straight year the Bulldogs have had an all-freshman team performer. It is the first time a Bulldog has been represented on the team in consecutive years since the 2012-14 seasons when Janel Johnson (2012), Lea Raedle (2013) and Mady Riegel (2014) earned SoCon All-Freshman Team honors. Yosue is the eighth player in program history to earn the honor.

Yosue played in 17 of the Bulldogs' 19 games this season, scoring four goals, second most on the team, and led the team with seven assists for a team-high 15 points. Her seven assists matched the overall program single-season and freshman records, and have Yosue tied for seventh in program history for career assists.

She took 54 shots on the year, second most on the team and 12th-most in program history. Her 26 shots on frame were tied for 14th most in program history for a single season.

Yosue scored two game-winning goals, her first coming in the 2-0 win over VMI on Sept. 29 and her second in the Bulldogs' 1-0 win over No. 8 seed ETSU in the opening round of the 2019 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championships on Oct. 30. Her two game winners are tied for sixth most in program history for a single season and 11th for career game-winning goals.

In Citadel freshman records, Yosue ranks tied for first in assists, third in shots and shots on goal, tied for fourth in game-winning goals and tied for eighth in points.

Yosue made her collegiate debut in the Bulldogs' 1-0 home victory over North Dakota on Aug. 30, playing 60 minutes, and made her first collegiate start in the 1-1 draw with USC Upstate on Sept. 10. In that game against USC Upstate, she recorded her first career assist. She then proceeded to start every game, playing every minute in seven contests.

The Bulldogs wrapped up the 2019 season in the quarterfinal round of the SoCon Tournament. The 2019 campaign marks the first time in program history the Bulldogs have won a tournament game in back-to-back seasons. The Bulldogs beat North Dakota in the first-ever meeting between the two programs and picked up a win over VMI in back-to-back years for the first time since the 2004-05 seasons. The 'Dogs also picked up a win over ETSU in back-to-back years for the first time in program history.
