CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel head women's soccer coach
Ciaran Traquair announced Tuesday the addition of three final newcomers to the 2019 roster, including a graduate transfer and two freshmen.
The trio includes College of Charleston grad transfer
Paige Davis, as well as freshmen
Ashley James and
Suzuka Yosue. With the addition of Davis, James and Yosue, The Citadel's roster will stand at 28 total players, including 10 newcomers.
"We are always working hard up until the last minute to strengthen our recruiting class," Traquair said. "I am confident the late additions will add real quality to our team and make us better as a group. The 2019 incoming class covers many areas of our team and several of the girls will impact our starting eleven. I am excited to see it develop over preseason and hopefully be watching our strongest group in several years."
Paige Davis
MF | Danbury, Conn. (Immaculate HS / College of Charleston)
Davis follows in the footsteps of former teammate
Dakota Steiner, heading across town from the College of Charleston to The Citadel for her final year of eligibility. During her four years at CofC, Davis appeared in 12 games, earning one start against Northeastern. Away from soccer, she competed in four fitness competitions and is a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Instructor.
Prior to coming to Charlesotn, Davis was a four-year starter at Immaculate High School where she scored 30 goals to go along with 39 assists throughout high school career. Her team won the Class "S" State Championships in 2011 and 2012, the 2012 SouthWest Conference Championship crown and the 2014 Class "L" State Championship.
Davis was named to the all-league team four times (2011-14) and earned all-conference and all-region honors in 2013 and 2014. She was named a Hearst Media Top 15 Player for Connecticut in 2013 and 2014 and was voted the top player in the SouthWest Conference by the league's coaches in both 2013 and 2014. She was named the SouthWest Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player in 2012, and earned MVP honors for the Class "L" State Championship Game in 2014, the same year she was named an All-American.
A four-time Dr. Ben Carson Scholar Award recipient at Immaculate, Davis was elected Vice President of her high school's National Honor Society. She also lettered in indoor track and field and was an honor roll student.
Coach Traquair on Davis – "Paige has been part of a very strong College of Charleston program and comes to us as a fifth-year player. She adds much-needed experience and comes with a personal drive and determination to make her last season a big one. I expect her to have an impact every day and help us manage game situations when we get into conference play. She is naturally left sided, strong, tough in the tackle, and dominant defensively."
Ashley James
MF/D | Dallas, Ga. (North Paulding HS)
A four-year letterwinner at North Paulding High School, James was named her high school team's Unsung Hero as a senior and was named a senior player of the week during the season. She played her club ball for YMCA Athena B, Southern Soccer Academy (SSA) Premier and trained with SSA's RPL team, SSA-Super Y.
Outside of soccer, she was a member of the National Honor Society and won first place on a banner made for the Beta Club. She earned the Print Making Award in art and was the People's Choice Award for a painting recognized by a U.S. Congressman.
James' father, Rick, is a 1996 graduate of The Citadel Oscar Company.
Coach Traquair on James – "Ashley comes to us from a solid SSA team out of Georgia. She fits the mission of this school and will bring drive and commitment to training every day. She is a defensive player who can slot in at left and right back. I expect her to grow as a freshman and take her game to a new level. She offers versatility and competition for places throughout the squad."
Suzuka Yosue
F |Osaka, Japan (Futaba Mirai)
Yosue joins the Bulldogs out of Osaka Japan where she played for the Japanese National U-16 Team.
Coach Traquair on Yosue – "Suzuka is a super talent and I expect her to improve our overall ability to create chances and score goals. Technically excellent, tactically astute and plays the game with a smile. She is great in tight spaces but also adapts and moves to allow others to flourish around her. Suzuka will be enjoyable to watch and someone who will help excel our program for the next few years."
