HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Navy out-shot The Citadel 19-7 for the game, including 9-4 in the opening half of play.
  • The Bulldogs came out immediately on the offensive as Maria Contreras took a shot that was wide of the net in the first minute.
  • Ellie Burgess nearly put the 'Dogs ahead when she cleaned up a rebound from a Marie Le Gallo corner kick, but Burgess's shot ricocheted off the crossbar.
  • From there, Navy went on the offensive, scoring early to go up 1-0 before adding the second goal nearly 20 minutes later.
  • Near the beginning of the second half, the two teams were sent to the locker room due to lightning being detected in the area. The weather delay lasted for an hour and 17 minutes.
  • Out of the delay, Hannah Roth was fouled in the box, setting up Dix for the penalty kick that gave the Bulldogs new life.
  • Despite a fresh charge from The Citadel, Navy retook the momentum with their own penalty kick to go up 3-1.
  • Navy out-shot The Citadel 10-3 in the second half.
  • McClaskey and Hannah Miller led the way with three shots each. All three of McClaskey's shots were on frame.
  • Seven different Bulldogs took a shot in the game.
  • Sophomore Maddie Somogyi (1-1) played all 90 minutes in between the pipes for The Citadel. She made eight saves, the most for a Bulldog keeper since
  • Sydney Fortson (3-1) made three saves in goal for Navy.

NOTABLES
