CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team departs for the final early-season tournament this weekend, taking part in the Trojan Classic, hosted by Troy. The Bulldogs will have a pair of matches on Friday, Sept. 20, against Southern and Troy and a single match Saturday, Sept. 21, against Florida A&M.
#BATTLEREADY (ABOUT THE CITADEL)
The Bulldogs are 4-6 heading into this week after traveling to their final early-season tournament in Troy, Ala. They went 2-1 at the Trojan Classic, topping Southern and Florida A&M over the weekend.
Leading the offense through the weekend was
Mellanie King and
Sharlissa De Jesus, both recording 41 and 46 total kills, respectively. Both rank among the top 10 in the SoCon for kills per set.
THE CITADEL VS NCCU (THE HISTORY)
The Citadel has faced off against the Eagles six times over the last 13 years, most recently with a Bulldogs', 3-1 victory in 2017. The current record is tied at three games each, with Tuesday's match a chance to settle the score.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles of North Carolina Central will look to put their first win on the board this season tomorrow, as they are currently 0-12 for the year. They have played fellow SoCon members UNCG and Wofford prior to Tuesday, falling 1-3 to UNCG and, 0-3 to Wofford. They are led by Christine Wilcox on offense with a total 94 kills and averaging 2.35 per set. The Eagles' whole offense registers a .148 kill percentage to their opponents' .284.

The 'Dogs return home this weekend, opening conference play with Mercer Friday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. and Samford Saturday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.
