Bulldogs Fall in Midweek Action

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team fell to Wofford in four sets  (25-23, 24-26, 21-25, 23-25) during midweek action on Wednesday evening in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

How it Happened
  • The Terriers opened the first set with a block, but it was quickly returned with a kill from Ali Ruffin.  
  • The teams were evenly matched, and a kill from Sharlissa de Jesus tied them up at 20 forcing a Wofford timeout. 
  • The Bulldogs went on a 5-3 run ending the set at 25-23 with a kill from Ruffin.
  • The second set began with a kill from Makaya Midleton and service ace from de Jesus to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 advantage. 
  • Wofford fought back and ultimately met the Bulldogs at 24-24. Back-to-back kills allowed the Terriers to finish the set at 26-24. 
  • The third set saw a strong Terrier start, putting them at a four-point advantage. The Bulldogs used kills from de Jesus and Middleton to catch up and tie the set at 13. 
  • Wofford once again took off and pulled a lead that the Bulldogs could not return, ending the set at 25-21. 
  •  Bulldog errors allowed Wofford to start the final set with a 5-1 lead. 
  • The Citadel fought back from the disadvantage and a service ace from Belle Hogan allowed a 12-12 tie. 
  • The team's exchanged points and were still tied at 23-23, but Bulldog errors allowed the set and match to end at 25-23.

  • Sharlissa de Jesus tied her season-high with 25 kills,t equaled the mark she set against Idaho State in the season opener. 
  • Ali Ruffin followed with 13 kills, and two solo-blocks.
  • Belle Hogan added 50 assists, 14 digs, and one service ace. The 50 assists are a career-high.
  • Faith Justice contributed two service aces.
