CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel will wrap up its 2020-21 home schedule as UNCG visits McAlister Field House on Sunday and Monday, with both matches slated for a 5 p.m. first serve and Monday's match doubling as the program's Senior Day.
Both matches will be carried live on ESPN+ as the Bulldogs and Spartans do battle. On Monday, volleyball and basketball will have combined Senior Day festivities beginning at approximately 4:45 p.m. prior to the match.
In The Citadel's most recent matches, the Bulldogs split a trip to ETSU, falling 3-0 last Sunday before staging a dramatic rally in Monday's match, coming from two sets down to earn their first-ever victory over the Bucs. That result also marked the first time in program history that The Citadel had come from two sets down to defeat a Southern Conference opponent in five sets.
Monday's come-from-behind win featured four double-double from the Bulldogs as
Sharlissa de Jesus (18 kills, 12 digs),
Makaya Middleton (14 kills, 11 digs),
Mellanie King (10 kills, 10 digs) and
Amie Greene (45 assists, 10 digs) all hit that mark. de Jesus led the team with 25 combined kills across the two matches at ETSU.
King enters this weekend just seven kills short of 1,000 for her career; the senior would become the sixth member of the 1,000-kill club for the Bulldogs should she reach that mark against the Spartans.
UNCG enters the weekend 2-11 overall and 2-10 in SoCon action, having suffered three consecutive sweeps including most recently against Elon in non-conference play on Thursday evening. The Spartans' lone wins came as they took both matches at Furman three weekends ago.
Following this weekend's matches, The Citadel will wrap up the regular season with a trip west to Birmingham, Ala., to battle Samford next Sunday and Monday. The Bulldogs will be looking to snap a six-match losing streak in the series; their lone win in 19 meetings against Samford came in a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 22, 2017.
