How It Happened
  • Samford applied early pressure, launching four shots in the first 12 and a half minutes of the match, but The Citadel's defense held strong, not allowing any of those four chances on goal as Brie Sikes was not pushed into action on a save until the 26th minute.
  • McKenna Falarski had the best scoring chance of the first half for The Citadel at the 33:25 mark. The freshman made a long run down the left side of the field and tried to slot a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal, but the Samford goalkeeper was there for the stop.
  • Sikes made a pair of saves in the final 15 minutes to preserve the deadlock and send the two sides into the locker room scoreless after 45 minutes.
  • Twice in a span of three minutes early in the second half, The Citadel nearly took the lead. In the 55th minute, the ball ricocheted around the Samford box as both Ellie Burgess and Hannah Roth got a foot on it, but both shots were parried away by Samford defenders. Three minutes later, Falarski nearly struck again as her header pinged off the crossbar out of the reach of Samford's keeper.
  • Heading into the final 15 minutes of play neither side had yet been able to find a breakthrough, but Samford tallied three goals in the final 14 minutes of action to come away with the win despite the strong fight from The Citadel.

Inside the Numbers
  • Brie Sikes matched her career high with eight saves on Sunday afternoon, her fifth time in the last six matches coming away with at least five stops.
  • Suzuka Yosue tied her season-best mark with four shots on Sunday, having previously done so earlier this year against Georgia Southern (Sept. 14) and VMI (March 19).
  • After seven of The Citadel's 11 starters played the full 90 minutes at Chattanooga on Friday, eight did so on Sunday, with only Ellie Burgess (88 minutes), Maria Contreras (87 minutes) and Hannah Roth (63 minutes) not remaining on the field for the duration of the match.
  • Ashley James made her fifth appearance of the season and first since March 19 for the Bulldogs.
  • Taylor Diggs matched her season-best with 26 minutes played; she also hit that mark at Belmont Abbey on Oct. 3.
