CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team welcomes three in-state foes for The Citadel Tournament on Sept. 16-17. The tournament includes Charleston Southern, Presbyterian and South Carolina State, and will feature two matches each day.
 
Tournament Schedule
Thursday, Sept. 16
1 p.m. – Charleston Southern vs. South Carolina State
6 p.m. – South Carolina State vs. The Citadel
 
Friday, Sept. 17
1 p.m. – South Carolina State vs. Presbyterian
6 p.m. – Presbyterian vs. The Citadel
 
Bulldogs Look to Match Best Program Start
The Citadel is off to a 3-1 start for the third time in program history. The Bulldogs are just one win away from equaling the best start in program history, 4-1 to begin the 2011 season.  
 
de Jesus Takes Home Weekly Honor
Outside hitter Sharlissa de Jesus was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week after registering 73 kills, 49 digs, seven service aces and five block assists in leading the Bulldogs to a 3-1 start. She was also honored as the conference player of the week in each of the last two weeks of the spring season.
 
Duo Named to All-Tournament Team
Alicia Roberts and Sharlissa de Jesus were selected to the all-tournament team at the Buccaneer Invitational. Both were recognized after helping the Bulldogs to a pair of victories.
 
Series with SC State
Thursday's meeting is the 27^th all-time on the court with The Citadel holding a 21-5 advantage. The Citadel holds a 9-1 advantage in matches played inside McAlister Field House. The Citadel has won each of the last eight matches, with the latest being a 3-0 victory during the 2019 season.
 
Series with PC
The Bulldogs and Blue Hose have met three times prior with PC winning each of the previous three matches. All three of the previous matches have been played on neutral courts, with the last contest happening in 2010.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs open Southern Conference play as they travel for a pair of matches on Sept. 24-25. The Citadel takes on Mercer on Friday at 7 p.m., then travels to face Samford on Saturday at 7 p.m.
