CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team opens Southern Conference action this weekend as they travel to face Mercer on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and Samford on Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. Saturday's match at Samford will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Bulldogs are off to a 4-2 start on the season. The record is tied for the best start in program history, equaling the mark set in 2016 and 2011.
 
Kellerman Takes Home SoCon Honor
Libero Kenzie Kellerman is the reigning SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. The junior was honored after recording 43 digs, five assists and three service aces in a pair of matches. She had 17 digs and three aces in a sweep of South Carolina State, and added 26 digs in four sets against Presbyterian.
 
Scouting Mercer
The Bears enter the match with a record of 4-7 and put an end to a seven-match losing streak with a 3-0 sweep of Alabama State on Sept. 18. Mercer is 3-0 at home this season. The Bear offense is led by Taylor Lynch, who is averaging 2.87 kills per set. Libero Megan Smith is averaging 4.53 digs per set.
 
Scouting Samford
Samford, who was picked to win the conference in the preseason polls, is off to a slow start at 1-10.  The Bulldogs have lost four-straight matches. They will open conference play against Wofford Friday night. Kenya McQuirter leads the offense with 3.59 kills per set, while Lauren Deaton is averaging 3.52 kills per set.
