CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel Head Basketball Coach
Ed Conroy has announced his team's 2022-23 non-conference schedule. The Bulldogs have 13 matchups around their SoCon season, as well as one home exhibition. Twelve of these contests opens The Citadel's season prior to league play, with the one remaining game in late January.
"I am very excited about the schedule we were able to put together," said Conroy. "It was very important to me to include traditional rivals such as Clemson, College of Charleston, UNC, along with our SoCon rivals to bring an excitement and familiarity to our fans. I am counting on our corps of cadets and local fans to get behind this team and bring back the energy to McAlister Field House and make this one of the best home atmospheres in the country. We need everyone as we prepare for arguably the toughest schedule a Citadel team has faced, including the most Division 1 opponents scheduled in school history."
Including the exhibition the Bulldogs offer 15 chances for The Citadel fans to see them in action this year in McAlister. Tickets for this season can be found at citadelsports.com/tickets or by calling the ticket office at 843-953-3647. Season tickets start as low as $100 and mini plans for four or six games are currently available. Single game tickets go on sale October 31.
Two of these opponents reached the NCAA Tournament in March, along with two from Power 5 conferences. Eight games will take place in the Carolinas, with two more against Midwest opponents. Conroy's squad also reserved a three-game trip to New Orleans over Thanksgiving Break.
The
Ed Conroy era is reborn where it all began in McAlister Field House on Sunday, Oct. 30 with an exhibition against Mars Hill at 4 P.M. Their regular season opener revisits an old foe, traveling to Clemson on Nov. 7 for their first matchup with the Tigers since 2018 and 84th overall. The Citadel starts its home season with a two-game stand against Presbyterian Nov. 10 and Morris Nov. 15. The Bulldogs head Midwest up to Butler on Nov. 19, followed by a trip to New Orleans for UNO's Big Easy Classic over Thanksgiving break. They open with the host Privateers on Nov. 23, Denver on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 24, then IUPUI on Nov. 25.
Coach Conroy's team settles back in the Lowcountry for two matchups, heading up the road for a meeting at Charleston Southern Nov. 30, then a long-awaited home matchup with College of Charleston on Dec. 3. It will mark the 98th meeting between the crosstown rivals and their first since 2016. The Bulldogs' next road venture takes them to Chapel Hill, facing North Carolina on Dec. 13 for their first meeting with the Tar Heels since 1991 and 20th overall. It will also mark the first time the Bulldogs take on the previous season's NCAA Finalist since Maryland in 2002. Their next contest includes another NCAA Tournament participant from last season in defending Big South champion Longwood on Dec. 17 in McAlister. Their final two non-conference matchups include a road match at North Carolina Central Dec. 20, then hosting Chicago State on Jan. 30.
