Bulldogs Gain Ground in SoCon with Impressive Win at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. –  The Citadel returned to the win column Thursday with yet another dramatic SoCon road victory, this time at Furman by a 2-nil decision. Suzuka Yosue had a three-point day, connecting with Jimena Risoto for the opening score and handling the scoring duties herself towards the end of the contest to put the game away. The Bulldogs' two SoCon wins this season have come against the top two teams in the SoCon Preseason Poll, with Samford ranked first and Furman second.

How it Happened
  • 24' – Jimena Risoto got a centering pass from the left side by Suzuka Yosue, drilling a ball through keeper Nora Sampson that trickled past the goal line.
  • 85' – Suzuka Yosue got a great ball down the left wing, then made an even greater cut around the defender for a great delivery to the bottom left corner.

  • 5' – Furman's Ashlyn Goila fired a direct free kick that hit both the crossbar and right upright, with two ensuing attempts off the rebound leaving the Paladins empty handed.
  • 7' – Ashley Frank played a good read at the top of the box that just caught the hands of goalie Nora Samps and over the net.

  • Thursday's victory gave the Bulldogs its third-ever victory over Furman and the first under seventh-year head coach Ciaran Traquair. Along with their win at Samford two weeks ago, The Citadel is now 2-for-2 against the top two SoCon preseason favorites.
  • Suzuka Yosue upped her school-record assists career total to 31 and is now tied for second all-time with Vanessa Aponte with 73 points. Yosue is tied for first in the SoCon this season with seven assists alongside tonight's adversary Nieva Gaither, while ranking third in the league with 15 points.
  • Brie Sikes made her fifth start in goal this year and first since Sept. 20 against South Carolina State, raking in four saves in a dominating evening. This is her first complete-game shutout on the season, improving to 3-2.
  • Jimena Risoto climbs the scoring chart with ten points on three goals and four assists, moving into a three-way tie for second-most goals on the team with Maggie Melogy and Ashley Frank.

  • "Brilliant win for the team. We played fantastic with and without the ball and we're good value for the win. To come to a program like Furman and pick up three points in that manner is a a really proud step for our development. The key now is trying to price together results to climb that SoCon table."
