Holland Takes Home the Championship

LEXINGTON, VA.Carisma Holland takes home the Women's Indoor Southern Conference Championship in the shot put on day one of the 2022 Indoor Track and Field SoCon Championships.
 
Day 1 Results
 
Men's Results
  • Stephen Kraeling took a second-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6-6.75.
  • Prince Howard-Whitaker ended his impressive indoor season with a fourth-place finish in the shot put; he tossed 48-10.25.
  • The distance medley team of Andrew Smith, Kane Duncan, Aidan Richter, and Sam Sharnas finished in fourth place with a time of 10:14.11.
  • Prince Moody finished sixth in the high jump with 6-4.75.
  • Jaylan Adams qualified for the finals on day two; he finished fifth in the 60m dash prelims and set a personal record with time of 6.97. 
  • Treonte Newton set a personal record of 49.62 and finished sixth in the 400m Dash prelims to qualify for the finals on day two.
  • Chris Beverly set a personal record in the long jump with a leap of 21-0. 
  • Mac Strunk set personal records in the 60 meter dash with 7.13 and the 200 meter dash with 22.68. 
  • Jeremy Walker competed in the 400 meter dash; he set a personal record with a 51.10. 
 
Women's Results
  • Carisma Holland finished her record-breaking indoor season as the Women's SoCon Indoor shot put Champion; she tied her personal best with a toss of 46-8.25.
  • Holland is the first field athlete to be crowned champion since Monique Edwards in 2010.
  • Tatiana Corso finished seventh in the shot put to set a personal record with a put of 40-4. She is now fifth all-time in the school's record book. 
  • Emily Hickey tied the school's all-time record in the pole vault, set by Sam Engel in 2021, by clearing 10-11.75.
  • Heidi Fortin broke her own school record with a time of 10:34.07 in the 3000m run. 
  • Leah Murray tied her personal record in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.91. Also, she set a personal record in 200 meter dash with 25.88 to earn her third all-time. 
  • Gabby Shea had a personal record in the 800 meter run with 2:24.81 to earn the seventh spot all-time. 
  • Yanna Cuesta set a personal record in the shot put with a put of 32-9.5.
 
Day two of the Indoor Championships will be broadcasted on ESPN+ with coverage starting at noon.
