CHARLESTON, S.C. -  The Citadel volleyball team will hit the road for The Rocky Top Classic hosted in Knoxville, Tenn. Sept. 9-10.  The Bulldogs will play Norfolk State on Friday (4:00 p.m.) and New Hampshire Saturday (10:00 a.m.). Tournament play will conclude on Saturday with Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. Â

Jaelynn Elgert and setter
Belle Hogan were both named Southern Conference player of the Week for the week of Aug. 29- Sept. 4. Hogan 127 assists, 29 digs, 15 kills, nine total blocks and eight service aces over the course of three matches at the Clemson Invitational and was named to the All-Tournament team. Elgert put away 63 digs, 10 assists and six service aces over the weekend. Elgert also hit a career-high of 26 digs against Clemson.Â

Scouting Norfolk State
The Spartans are coming off an 8-18 season with a 4-10 mark in the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic) conference in 2021. They currently stand at an 0-4 mark on the season after the Pirate Invitational in Greenville S.C. and their home-opener against Hampton. The Bulldogs hold a 3-0 record in the series against Norfolk State with only one set dropped.

Scouting New Hampshire
New Hampshire concluded their 2021 season with a 16-12 record, and a 7-5 America East conference slate. They have started the 2022 season 5-3, winning the Holly Young Invitational 4-0, then losing the Villanova Tournament 0-3. The Citadel will face the UNH Wildcats for the first time in program history.Â

Scouting Tennessee
The Vols were 20-10 last year with an 11-7 SEC finish. They currently stand at 3-3 this season with wins against NC State, Elon and Loyola Chicago and losses against Bowling Green, Purdue and Colgate. Right-side hitter Morghan Fingall has 100 kills and leads the team with 109.0 points.  The Bulldogs will also compete against Tennessee for the first time in program history.

The Bulldogs will return to their native McAlister Field House for a match up against local rivals Charleston Southern on Tuesday Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m. before continuing tournament action at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational.Â
