The Citadel to Host Samford and Furman

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team will host the Samford Bulldogs (11-5, 5-1) on Oct. 18 and then followed by the Furman Paladins (7-7, 1-2) on Oct. 19 inside McAlister Field House.

Notes on the Bulldogs
  • The Bulldogs head into the weekend with a 9-8 overall and 3-3 conference record. The Citadel currently sits in fourth place in the SoCon. The Bulldogs went 1-1 last week with a 3-2 win over Chattanooga and a 2-3 loss to ETSU.
  • Peri Hoshock was honored for the first time as the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. Hoshock recorded 17 total blocks with six block solos and 11 block assists.
  • Mackenzie Martin set the record for the most digs in a match with 45 against Chattanooga. Martin also holds the record for digs in a set at Tulane with 41.
  • The Bulldogs rank fourth in the country in digs per set with 17.94 per set.
  • Ali Ruffin is ranked among the country's leaders in NCAA active career doubles-doubles with 62. Luanna Emiliano from Georgia Tech leads the nation with 71.
Scouting Samford
Samford's overall record is 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the Southern Conference. They are tied for first in the SoCon with Wofford. Samford faces The Citadel with a five-match winning streak. Offensively, Kaleigh Meritt leads the Bulldogs with 227 kills, averaging 3.72 per set. Defensively, Kate Morgan leads the team with 241 digs, and Kate Wonus leads with 47.0 total blocks. The Citadel went 2-1 last season against Samford.

Scouting Furman
The Paladins are 7-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play, with two losses against Samford and Mercer. Offensively, Chandler Parker leads the Paladins with 146 kills, averaging 2.70 per set. Kennedy Seekford leads the team with 237 digs, and Genevieve Perry with 52.0 total blocks. The Bulldogs are currently on a six-match winning streak against the Paladins.
