Bulldogs Host ETSU and Chattanooga; Historical Senior Class to be Celebrated Against the Mocs

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel volleyball team (12-11, 6-6) is set to finish out their home Southern Conference schedule against the ETSU Bucs (15-9, 7-5) on November 8 and then will face the Chattanooga Mocs (14-12, 4-7) on November 9 for Senior Night inside McAlister Field House.

Notes on the Bulldogs
  • The Citadel Volleyball team is 12-11 overall and 6-6 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs split their matches last weekend with a 3-0 loss to Wofford and a 3-0 victory over UNCG.
  • The Bulldogs are ranked fifth in the conference with two more weekends of the regular season.
  • Belle Hogan broke the program record for career assists of 3,826, set by Emily Hill. Hogan currently sits at 3,873.
  • Sophie Childs and Jaelynn Elgert were named the Southern Conference Players of the Week on Monday. Childs was named the Offensive POTW, and Elgert was named Defensive POTW for the third time this season.
  • Elgert is the leader in digs (266) and digs per set (5.54) in the SoCon against conference opponents.
  • The Bulldogs will celebrate our six seniors/graduate students on Saturday night against the Mocs. Belle Hogan, Mackenzie Martin, Jaelynn Elgert, Sadie Gomez, Ali Ruffin, and Sophie Childs will be recognized before the match.
 
Scouting ETSU
The Buccaneers are 15-9 overall and 7-5 in the SoCon. ETSU went 1-1 last weekend with a 3-2 win over Samford and a 3-1 loss over Mercer. Offensively, Amanda Lowe leads the Bucs with 242 kills, averaging 2.75 per set. Defensively, Melanie Morris anchors the defense with 344 digs, averaging 3.91 per set. Abbey Thomas patrols the net with 95.0 total blocks for the Bucs. The Bulldogs fell in five sets to the earlier in the season.
 
Scouting Chattanooga
The Mocs are 14-12 overall and 4-7 in conference play. Chattanooga dropped both of its matches this past weekend against Mercer and Furman. On Nov. 8, Chattanooga will face UNCG before heading to The Citadel. Chard'e Vanzandt leads the Mocs with 299 kills, averaging 3.02 per set. Sydney Jackwin is not far behind with 284 kills, averaging 2.90 per set. Defensively, Paige Gallentine leads the defense with 487 digs, averaging 4.92 per set. Kynli Kirkendoll leads the team with 77.0 total blocks. The Bulldogs beat the Mocs in five sets in the prior matchup.

The Bulldogs will finish the regular season on the road, traveling to Furman on November 15 and then to Samford on November 16.
