MBB Preview: Bulldogs Host Keydets in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel (6–15, 3–5 SoCon) hosts VMI (6–15, 1–7 SoCon) on Thursday night at McAlister Field House in Southern Conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the game will stream on ESPN+.

Thursday's contest marks the 127th meeting between the Bulldogs and Keydets, with the all-time series tied at 63–63.

Scouting The Citadel
The Bulldogs enter the matchup following a road loss at ETSU, after recording overtime wins against Furman and Western Carolina earlier in conference play.

In the teams' most recent meeting, The Citadel defeated VMI, 82–68, on Jan. 17 in Lexington, Virginia. The Bulldogs took the lead early and did not trail, building a double-digit advantage in the first half and carrying a 47–34 lead into halftime after shooting 53.8 percent from the field and making seven three-pointers. VMI cut the deficit to seven early in the second half, but The Citadel extended the margin and sealed the game at the free-throw line in the closing minutes. In that contest, the Bulldogs recorded season highs with 27 made free throws and 32 attempts. Eze Wali converted 9-of-10 free throws, marking a season high for an individual player.

Through 21 games, Braxton Williams leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 13.3 points per game. Christian Moore is averaging 10.9 points per contest and has recorded multiple three-point field goals in 15 games this season, including four consecutive games. Sola Adebisi leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 rebounds per game. Defensively, the senior has totaled 21 blocked shots and has recorded at least one block in 10 consecutive games. As a team, The Citadel is shooting 42.5 percent from the field and averaging 9.3 made three-pointers per game.

VMI enters Thursday's matchup at 6–15 overall and 1–7 in Southern Conference play. The Keydets are averaging 73.2 points per game this season while allowing 77.2 points per contest.

Through 21 games, VMI is shooting 40.2 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from three-point range, while averaging 10.9 made three-pointers per game. The Keydets are also averaging 12.4 assists and 10.5 turnovers per contest.

TJ Johnson leads VMI in scoring at 18.4 points per game and also ranks first on the team in rebounding at 7.1 rebounds per game. AJ Clark is averaging 10.5 points per contest, while Mario Tatum Jr. contributes 9.9 points per game.
