CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel wrestling team dropped its final SoCon dual of the season on Friday evening to Chattanooga 34-3 inside McAlister Field House.

Aaron Walker faced Kamaal Shakur at 157 and took an early 1-0 lead after tallying an escape in the second period. Shakur evened things at 1-1 and with just nine seconds remaining, Walker recorded a two-point takedown to secure the victory and keep his winning streak alive. Walker is now 25-5 and moved to 7-0 in the Southern Conference. The junior has not lost since Jan. 2nd.

With the match beginning at 184 pounds, Chattanooga jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after winning by fall.
Marshall Haas took to the mat next at 197 pounds and took a 2-1 lead into the second period after recording a two-point takedown. The senior tallied another point with an escape but Scottie Boykin evened things with a two-point takedown of his own. Boykin secured two more two-point takedowns and Haas dropped to 22-10 on the year.

Joe Bexley was the next Bulldog up at 285 pounds where he faced No. 11 Jared Johnson. Bexley (13-14) trailed by three heading into the second period but the junior was unable to close the gap and lost by major decision.

The Mocs earned another win at 125 to increase their lead.
Caleb Smith (8-22) and Cody Hill were the next grapplers up and neither gave an inch with the score 4-2 in favor of UTC heading into the third period. Smith was unable to hang on in the third period and eventually lost by 8-2 decision.

Ty Buckiso took the mat for the Bulldogs at 141 and jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after tallying a two-point takedown. Buckiso (18-12) fell behind in the second period after Michael Pongracz recorded an escape and a two-point takedown but kept things close in the third period. With just seconds remaining, Buckiso appeared to have a takedown but the call was not confirmed and the sophomore lost by a 3-2 decision.

At 149,
Matt Frisch (19-9) and Chase Zemenac stood locked in a 1-1 tie in the third period but with less than three seconds remaining the Mocs earned a two-point takedown and won by a 3-1 decision.

After Walker picked up his win at 157 pounds, the Bulldogs lost the next two bouts to fall 34-3. The Citadel is now 5-9 and 2-5 in the SoCon.

The Citadel will host its last dual of the 2015-16 season on Feb. 21st when they host No. 13 North Carolina. The match will serve as senior day and will begin at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at CitadelSports.com for the match.
