Bulldogs Set for Final Home Games

ESPN3 | SPORTS RADIO 1450 AM | GAME NOTES | LIVE STATS

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel wraps up the 2015-16 home schedule this week at McAlister Field House with a pair of Southern Conference battles. The Bulldogs take on East Tennessee State at 6 p.m. Thursday before facing Western Carolina at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will air on ESPN3 and Sports Radio 1450 AM.

Thursday's matchup features a rematch of an overtime thriller at ETSU's Freedom Hall. The Citadel went toe-to-toe with one of the league's best and forced an extra period as freshman Quayson Williams poured in 29 points on seven three-pointers, but the Bucs eventually pulled away in overtime. The Bulldogs will have a chance to grab their third win in the last five meetings with ETSU.

Two days later, The Citadel hosts Western Carolina. That game, presented by All State, will be the final Pack The Mac event of the season with the entire South Carolina Corps of Cadets set to be in attendance. Ticket specials for $5 are still available at PackTheMac.com.

Following the National Anthem before Saturday's game, The Citadel will honor Quinton Marshall, P.J. Boutte and Derrick Henry with a Senior Ceremony as the trio dons a Bulldog uniform for the final time at McAlister Field House. To hear from the seniors, click on the image above.

In their last matchup with Western Carolina, the Bulldogs escaped in dramatic fashion. With his team trailing by one and less than two seconds remaining in the game, Boutte earned a trip to the line and sunk a pair of free throws to deliver a one-point win for The Citadel. With the stage set for an intense rematch, the Bulldogs will look to sweep the season series over the Catamounts.

Following this week's home games, the Bulldogs finish the regular season at UNC-Greensboro on Feb. 25 and VMI on Feb. 27. For all the latest on The Citadel basketball, follow @CitadelHoops and stay tuned to CitadelSports.com.

NOTES
• The Bulldogs have been a second half team of late, scoring 59 percent of their total points over the last five games in the second half (241-of-407). The Citadel is averaging 48.2 points per second half over that stretch. Through 27 games, the Bulldogs have scored at least 50 points in the final 20 minutes nine times and at least 40 points in the second half 22 times.
• Over the last two weeks of action, The Citadel has set four different program records. As a team, The Citadel broke records for three-pointers made in a season (313), points scored in a season (2,378) and steals in a season (256).
• Freshman Zane Najdawi also set a new program mark for blocks in a season by a freshman with 49 swats. He is only the second player in Bulldogs history to rack up more than 46 blocks in a season. Only four total players in the SoCon have 20 or more blocks in 2015-16.
• The Citadel's five freshmen have racked up 27 combined double-digit performances. None of them average more than 19 minutes per game.
• The Bulldogs are 6-2 in games decided by five points or less this season, including 4-1 in contests decided by three points or less.
• The Citadel is the only team in the nation that averages more than 87 points a game with a Division I-leading 88.1 PPG.
• The Dogs reached 10 wins vs. VMI. The Citadel can match last season's win total with a victory on Thursday.
• In addition to leading the nation in scoring, The Citadel ranks second in Division I in total steals with 256 swipes. The Bulldogs trail only ball-hawking West Virginia in that category, who has collected 261 steals. The Bulldogs have won the turnover battle 19 times in 27 games this season.
• Henry now has 925 career points. He'll need to average 15 points over the final five games to become The Citadel's 32nd 1000-point scorer. He scored 482 total points at Winthrop and has already scored 443 points in less than one full season as a Bulldog.
• After 23 points at Wofford, Henry has more 20-point games this season (10) than the rest of the Bulldogs combined (8). Henry ranks second in the SoCon in 20-point games and fifth in the league in scoring with 16.4 PPG.
• The senior has a knack for getting to the line, where he's shooting 79.8 percent (13th in the SoCon). His 142 total made free throws are the sixth most ever in a single season in program history.
• Graduate transfer P.J. Boutte has four double-digit assist games this year. No other player in the SoCon has more than one double-digit assist game.
• Boutte has dished out 153 total assists through 27 games, which leads the SoCon. His 5.7 assists per outing ranks 26th among all Division I players.
• Boutte's 153 dimes already ties Johnny Smith ('89-'90) at third all-time in program history for assists in a season. If the 2015-16 campaign ended today, his 2.22 assist-to-turnover ratio would rank fourth all-time in school history for a single season. So far it's the highest assist-to-turnover ratio by a Bulldog since 2000-01. As a team, the Bulldogs have recorded 400+ assists in a season for the 10th time in program history.
• The Bulldogs sit atop the Southern Conference in several statistical categories, including points per game, total assists (445), assists per game (16.5), total field goals made (815), steals per game (9.5) and total turnovers forced (477). The Dogs also rank third in free throw percentage (.731) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.2).
• Duggar Baucom is on pace to lead the nation in scoring for the seventh time in the past nine seasons as head coach.
• When the Bulldogs have held a rebounding edge over an opponent, they are 6-0 this season.
• The Citadel is responsible for five of the top six single-game three-point performances in the SoCon as a team this season, racking up 16 treys five different times in 2015-16. The Dogs rank first in the league in three-pointers made per game and third in the NCAA with 11.6.
• The Citadel made at least 10 triples in a game just three times last season. The Dogs have done that on 18 total occasions during the current campaign and nine times in 14 SoCon games.
• Junior Warren Sledge has made a three-pointer in 24 consecutive games. He made just 20 combined triples during his freshman and sophomore seasons. Sledge leads the Dogs in total made threes (58) and three-point field goal percentage (38.9%).
• Freshman Quayson Williams is one of just two freshmen in the SoCon to score 30 points in a game this season and one of two players to hit seven three-pointers in a game twice during the 2015-16 campaign. Williams' 51 three-pointers are already the seventh-most treys made by a freshman in a season in program history.
