Bulldogs Set for Trip to Mercer

AUDIO | VIDEO | LIVE STATS | GAME NOTES

CHARLESTON, S.C.
– The Citadel basketball team plays its second consecutive road game when the Bulldogs travel to Mercer on Saturday. Tip off is slated for 4:30 p.m. at the Bears' Hawkins Arena. The game will air on ESPN3 and Sports Radio 1450 AM.

The Citadel is looking to rebound from a loss at Chattanooga on Monday. Junior Brian White led the Bulldogs with 18 points and freshman Zane Najdawi chipped in eight rebounds, seven points and two blocks, but The Citadel could not overcome a late first-half surge that gave the Mocs a comfortable lead.

Head coach Duggar Baucom's squad seeks to snap a nine-game losing skid against Mercer when the Bears and Bulldogs square off Saturday. In their last meeting on Jan. 9, Mercer staved off The Citadel's comeback attempt as the Bulldogs poured in 16 three-pointers and cut their deficit to seven with 7:01 remaining. The Bears held on for a 91-80 victory.

After Saturday, The Citadel will regroup quickly for a matchup with Samford at McAlister Field House on Monday. That game tips off at 6 p.m. and tickets are available here. For all the latest on The Citadel basketball, follow @CitadelHoops and stay tuned to CitadelSports.com.

NOTES
• With 270 total three-pointers made as a team, the Bulldogs are now 13 treys shy of matching the program record for threes made in a season.
• The Citadel's five freshmen have racked up 23 combined double-digit performances. None of them average more than 19 minutes per game.
• Freshman Zane Najdawi ranks second in the SoCon in blocks per game with 1.7. Najdawi's 40 blocks this season are the third-most ever by a freshman at The Citadel. He needs seven more swats to set the freshman single-season block record.
• The Bulldogs are now 6-2 in games decided by five points or less this season, including 4-1 in contests decided by three points or less after the 78-75 win over VMI.
• The Citadel is the only team in the nation that averages more than 87 points a game with a Division I-leading 89.4 PPG.
• When the Bulldogs have held a rebounding edge over an opponent, they are 6-0 this season.
• The Citadel is 191 points away from setting the school record for total points in a season with at least nine games remaining.
• Junior Warren Sledge has made a three-pointer in 20 consecutive games. He made just 20 combined triples during his freshman and sophomore seasons.
• Duggar Baucom has won the last five games in the series between VMI and The Citadel. After Saturday, he needs just two wins to reach 200 total career victories as a head coach.
• Derrick Henry went 7-for-7 at the line to help beat VMI and has made 39-of-44 free throws over the last six games. Henry ranks fifth in the SoCon in free throw percentage (84.6) and second in total made free throws (124).
• Henry has 862 career points. If the senior (who is averaging 16.5 PPG) scores 15.3 points per contest the rest of the season, he'll become the 32nd player in Bulldogs history to rack up 1,000 career points.
• Henry is the only player in the Southern Conference with multiple 30-point performances and he's one of just 15 players in Citadel history to have at least two total 30-point games. He has as many 20-point games this season (8) as the rest of the Bulldogs combined (8). Henry earned his 10th career 20-point performance vs. VMI.

• Freshman Quayson Williams is the only freshman in the SoCon to score 30 points in a game this season and the only player to hit seven three-pointers in a game twice during the 2015-16 campaign.
• Williams' 48 three-pointers are already the eighth-most treys made by a freshman in a season in program history.
• The Citadel is the only team in the SoCon to have forced more than 400 turnovers this season. WCU ranks second in the league with just 369 TOs forced. The Citadel leads the league in steals and turnover margin.
• Senior point guard P.J. Boutte has dished out 131 total assists through 23 games, which leads the SoCon. The 131 dimes already ranks seventh all-time in program history for assists in a season.
