CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team returns to McAlister Field House after a road trip that ended with a pair of losses to the two teams atop the Southern Conference standings, Chattanooga and Mercer. The Bulldogs welcome Samford at 6 p.m. Monday on ESPN3 and Sports Radio 1450 AM.
Â
Head coach
Duggar Baucom, who needs just two victories to reach the 200 career-win plateau, continues to steer the nation's top offense that scores a Division-I best 88.7 points per game. The Bulldogs lead the Southern Conference in assists per game, total field goals made and three-pointers per game. Entering tomorrow's game, The Citadel needs just three three-pointers to set a new program record for total made treys in a season.
Â
Monday's contest features a rematch as The Citadel fell to Samford 94-74 in Birmingham on Jan. 5. The Citadel has had success against Samford at home, winning five of the six all-time matchups at McAlister and outscoring the visiting Bulldogs by a combined 37 points in those games.
Â
The Citadel has been balancing consistent play from its core of seniors with clutch contributions from its freshmen as the Bulldogs are one victory shy of matching last season's win total in Baucom's first year at the helm.
Â
The Citadel's freshmen have racked up 24 combined double-digit performances, led by
Quayson Williams and
Zane Najdawi. Williams has 50 three-pointers on the season, the second-most on the team and seventh-most ever by a freshman in program history. Meanwhile Najdawi has piled up 42 blocks in 2015-16. He's just five swats away from setting the program mark for most blocks in a season by a freshman.
Â
The duo will help the Bulldogs try and snap a two-game skid on Monday night and deliver The Citadel its sixth home win of the season.
After tomorrow night, The Citadel travels to Furman on Thursday and Wofford on Saturday. For all the latest on The Citadel basketball, followÂ
