CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Citadel men's tennis team's season came to an end Friday morning at the 2018 Southern Conference Tennis Championships hosted by UTC at the Champions Club as the No. 8 seed Bulldogs fell 4-0 to top-seeded ETSU.
ETSU (14-7) started the match off by claiming the doubles point over the Bulldogs (10-25) behind matching 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Juan Lugo and
Tasei Miyamoto defeated
Noah Nawabi and
Gavin Stewart at No. 1 and
Sergi Fontcuberta and
David Gonzalez bested
Willem van Zyl and
Trey Davis at No. 3.
Robert Herrera and
Miguel Este were up 5-1 on
Matthew Henson and
Will Graham when doubles ended.
In singles action, Fontcuberta began with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nawabi at No. 3 singles with Herrera following up with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Henson at No. 1. Este then secured the winning point for the Buccaneers with a 6-2, 6-1 win over
Roy Hobson at No 6 singles.
Jack Pyritz was up 6-5 in the first set over Gonzalez at No. 4 singles when the match wrapped up. Lugo was up 6-3, 4-2 on van Zyl at No. 2 singles and Miyamoto was up 6-2, 3-3 at No. 5 over Stewart.

Chuck Kriese is already working towards the 2019 season as he has signed two incoming freshmen to their National Letters of Intent. The duo includes four-star player
Phillip Quinn out of Dallas, Texas, and
Josiah Schainblatt from Raleigh, North Carolina. Not only does Kriese bring in the two talented freshmen, he will also return a healthy core group of players that features all the main pieces from the 2018 season as well as the Bulldogs' top player from 2017.
