Stallworth Named to HoopsHD.com’s Mid-Season All-SoCon Team

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Citadel men's basketball point guard Lew Stallworth has been named to the mid-season All-Southern Conference team by HoopsHD.com. The award takes into consideration games played during the 2018 portion of the 2018-19 season.

Stallworth is joined on the team by VMI's Bubba Parham, Wofford's Cameron Jackson, Furman's Matt Rafferty and Samford's Ruben Guerrero.

A graduate transfer from Los Angeles, California, Stallworth led the Bulldogs to a 9-3 record in 2018, including an 8-3 mark in non-conference games. Stallworth guided the 'Dogs to back-to-back road wins over James Madison and South Florida, which began a stretch of seven wins in a row. The seven wins were the most consecutive wins by a Bulldog team since the 2008-09 team rattled off 11 wins in a row from Jan. 22 – Feb. 26.

The Bulldogs also started Southern Conference play with a 79-69 win over Mercer on Dec. 1 and went on the road to best Campbell, 82-76.

Stallworth was twice named the SoCon Player of the Week by the league office (Nov. 27, Dec. 4) and earned College Sports Madness SoCon Player of the Week honors three times (Nov. 26, Dec. 3, Dec. 24).

In the 12 games of 2018, Stallworth averaged a team-best 17.9 points and 6.9 assists per game. He shot a team-best 58.2 percent from the field and added 6.3 rebounds per contest, second-best on the squad.

Stallworth scored 20 or more points in five games, including a career-high 26 at James Madison. From Nov. 16 – 24, Stallworth averaged 23.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game, all on the road.

Stallworth recorded five double-doubles, including three via points and assists and two off points and rebounds. He set a personal and program record for assists in a game with 13, to go along with 13 points, on Nov. 14 against Johnson (Fla.). He then came just one assist shy of that mark with 12 against High Point on Nov. 27.

For the season, Stallworth leads the SoCon in assists per game (6.7), is second in total assists (94), fourth in the league in scoring (18.0 points per game) and field goal percentage (.587), and seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0).

The Citadel returns home this week for a pair of games inside McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs will first host ETSU on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. before Western Carolina comes calling on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. Thursday's game against ETSU will be sponsored by LaQuinta and TD Bank, and Saturday's game will feature Peace Love and Hip Hop as the half-time performance.
