CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team opens a week-long trip that will cover four different states and cover over 2,700 miles. The 'Dogs open the trip at Southeast Missouri State.
WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?
For the third straight game,
Hayden Brown scored in double figures, marking the third time in his career he has had a streak of at least three games with double-digit points. Brown had a stretch last season of four game in double figures that spanned Jan. 1-24. His 59 points scored and average of 19.7 points per game in the stretch are the most of any three-game stretch in his career.
CENTURY MARK FOR DAVIS
Graduate transfer
Eddie Davis, III played in his 100th-career college game on Nov. 16. Davis played in 74 games over four years at Southern Miss and played in 23 games last season at Hartford before being granted a sixth year of eligibility prior to this season.
THE HISTORY WITH SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
The Citadel and Southeast Missouri have played just once prior to Tuesday's meeting. The Bulldogs won, 86-74, in Charleston last season.
LAST TIME AGAINST SEMO
For the first time in program history, The Citadel men's basketball team won eight games before Christmas as the Bulldogs downed Southeast Missouri 86-74 on Dec. 12, 2018. The 'Dogs were led by
Kaiden Rice's 19 points off the bench, and four of the Bulldogs' starting five eclipsed the double-digit point total for the fourth straight game.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Southeast Missouri is 1-1 with a 79-78 win at home over Purdue Fort Wayne after opening the season with an 83-65 loss at Vanderbilt. The Redhawks are in the midst of a three-game homestand that ends Friday, Nov. 22 with a game against Missouri S&T. In their two games, the Hawks have averaged 72 points and given up 80.5. SEMO have hit on 43.9% of their field goal attempts with their two opponents converting 44.8% of their shot attempts from the field. The Redhawks have made 11 3-pointers compared to 24 by their opponents.
SEMO INDIVIDUALLY
Through two games, four players are averaging double-digit points led by
Chris Harris' 15.5 points per game off 60.0% shooting.
Quatarrius Wilson is averaging a double-double with 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while
Sage Tolbert and
Alex Caldwell both average 10.0 points per contest. Tolbert leads the team with five assists and
Skyler Hogan is second with four. Harris leads the team with five made 3-pointers and is connecting on 71.4% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Wilson, Tolbert, Caldwell and Hogan have all started both games with
DQ Nicholas and
Oscar Kao each having started one game.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING ILLINI
Illinois enters the week 2-1, including 1-1 on the road. The Fighting Illini opened the season with a 78-70 win over Nicholls State at home before going on the road for an 83-71 win at Grand Canyon and a 90-69 loss at No. 21 Arizona. The Illini play Hawai'i Monday night. As a team, Illinois is averaging 76.7 points per contest with their opponents scoring 77.0 points per game. The Illini have connected on 45.5% of their shots from the field, but have only converted 29.2% of their 3-point attempts. In comparison, Illinois' three opponents have converted 46.8% of their shots from the field, including 41.8% from beyond the 3-point arc. Illinois is +17.0 in rebounding margin and has committed 20.7 turnovers per game compared to 14.3 by the opposition.
ILLINOIS INDIVIDUALLY
The Illini have been led through three games by
Andres Feliz's 19.0 points per game. He is joined in double-digit scoring by
Ayo Dosunmu with 15.0 points per outing and
Kofi Cockburn's 14.0 points per game. Cockburn has averaged a double-double as he leads the team with 10.7 boards per outing while connecting on 60.0% of his shots from the field.
Alan Griffin leads the team with four made 3-pointers, while a trio of his teammates have each made three. Dosunmu brings a team-high 12 assists into the week and Cockburn has already swatted away four shots.
Trent Frazier and
Giorgi Bezhanishvili join Feliz, Dosunmu and Frazier in the starting five and have both averaged 8.7 points per game.
THE HISTORY WITH MARIST
The Bulldogs and Red Foxes have squared off on the hardwood just once prior to Saturday with the Red Foxes claiming a 100-91 win in Charleston back during the 2017-18 season.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST MARIST
Despite stretching things out to a 20-point lead with 18:35 to go in the second half, The Citadel basketball team fell 100-91 to Marist in the opening game of the Papa John's Bulldog Bash inside McAlister Field House on Dec. 1, 2017, as the Red Foxes shot 61.9% (13-of-21) from three-point range in the second stanza. For the game, The Citadel shot 40.5% (32-of-79) from the field and 35.7% (15-of-42) from three-point range. The Bulldogs scored 32 points in the paint, 29 off Marist's 25 turnovers and received 47 points from their bench. On the other end of the court, Marist ended the game shooting 55.6% (35-of-63), including 60.6% (20-of-33) in the second half alone. The Red Foxes shot 45.0% (18-of-40) from three-point range and had 34 points in the paint and 12 points off second-chance shots.
Quayson Williams led five Bulldogs in double figures with a season-high 22 points, four off his career-high. He hit on six three-pointers, also a season-high, and had a team-high five assists in the game. His six three-pointers gives him 128 three-pointers for his career and has him tied for 13
th in program history for three-pointers made in a career.
Matt Frierson also hit on six three-pointers, tying his season-high set in the season-opener against Oglethorpe. Frierson's six treys gives him 133 for his career and has him tied for 10
th in program history for three-pointers made. Frierson ended the night with 18 points off 6-of-14 (.429) shooting in 26 minutes of work.
SCOUTING THE RED FOXES
Marist enters the week with a 1-2 record. The Red Foxes opened the season with a 58-56 win at VMI before dropping the next two games, including a 62-51 decision at home against Hartford. Most recently, Marist dropped a 58-41 decision at Fordham. Through the first three games of the season, Marist has not managed to score over 29 points in a half, including managing to score just 20 points in the first half and only 21 points in the second half of their game at Fordham. The Red Foxes have averaged 50.0 points per game, while allowing their opponent to score 58.7 points per outing. Marist has converted 32.4% from the field, including 25.9% from beyond the arc. Their opponents have connected on 42.2% of their shots from the field and 35.6% from long range.
MARIST INDIVIDUALLY
Michael Cubbage and
Matt Turner lead the Red Foxes in scoring with averages of 11.3 points and 10.7 points per outing. Cubbage and
Zion Tordoff lead the team with 5.3 rebounds per game each, while
Jordan Jones leads the team with a 60.0% shooting percentage. Turner has made the most 3-pointers on the team with five, and Cubbage leads the squad with four assists. Cubbage and
Tyler Saint-Furcy are the only two players to have started all three games. Jones and
Matt Herasme have both started two games, with five other players each starting one game.
CLEAR BAG POLICY
Fans attending ticketed athletic events at The Citadel this year are reminded of the new clear bag policy that has been implemented. Under the policy, fans will be allowed to bring with them a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a one-gallon plastic bag (such as Ziploc or Hefty bags).
