CHARLESTON, S.C.
– Coming off one of its biggest wins in recent memory, The Citadel will hit the road for a Southern Conference matchup at new league leader ETSU on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. inside Freedom Hall.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from inside Freedom Hall. The game will also be carried on the radio locally on 102.1FM and 1450AM with Luke Mauro, the Voice of the Bulldogs, on the radio call.

In its most recent game, The Citadel (9-4, 2-4 SoCon) overcame a 16-point first-half deficit and held Wofford to 17.2 percent shooting (5-of-29) from beyond the arc to knock off the Terriers, 77-69, inside McAlister Field House on Wednesday evening. After falling behind 33-17 at the 7:11 mark in the first half, the Bulldogs outscored Wofford 60-36 over the final 27 minutes of the contest to defeat the Terriers for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign.

Kaiden Rice led all scorers with 21 points, and Hayden Brown approached triple-double territory, a feat never accomplished in The Citadel's history, with 16 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Tyler Moffe also turned in his strongest performance since joining the Bulldogs as a graduate transfer prior to the season, logging 18 points while going a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range.

Despite all of The Citadel's offensive firepower, the defense may have been the key to Wednesday's upset over Wofford. The 'Dogs held the Terriers to just 34.8 percent shooting (24-of-69) from the floor, the lowest by any Division I opponent in a single game of the entire Duggar Baucom era (since 2015-16); in the second half, Wofford knocked down just eight of its 32 chances from the field.

Brown's big game against the Terriers came one day after being named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List, the award presented annually to the top mid-major player in college basketball. Brown, who leads the SoCon in both scoring (21.0) and rebounding (10.3), was one of five SoCon players on the 40-member watch list, and Saturday's matchup will feature a bout against fellow honoree Ledarrius Brewer.

The Citadel hit the boards hard against Wofford on Wednesday, coming down with 44 total rebounds for its highest total against a SoCon opponent since Feb. 25, 2018. Eight of those rebounds came off the offensive glass, continuing a strong run in that category for the 'Dogs; The Citadel has averaged 10.4 offensive rebounds per game over its last five outings, with at least eight pulled down in each contest.

After a cold stretch from three-point range against UNCG and Mercer, The Citadel bounced back in a big way against Wofford, knocking down 14 of its 27 chances (51.9 percent) from beyond the arc, its best percentage in that category against a conference foe since Feb. 28, 2019. Moffe's quintet of three-pointers led the way, and Rice knocked down four triples to remain the nation's individual leader in three-point makes per game this season with 4.77. As a team, The Citadel connects on nearly two more three-pointers per game (13.2) than any other team in the country.

ETSU (9-5, 5-1 SoCon) has been off since last Saturday due to a midweek cancellation; in their last time out, the Bucs took down Furman, 71-62, to extend their winning streak to three games. Despite having fewer wins in SoCon play than both UNCG and Wofford, ETSU currently remains the league leader by virtue of having just one loss, a 78-66 setback against Furman on Jan. 16.

As previously mentioned, Lou Henson Award watch list honoree Brewer is the focal point of the Bucs' squad, averaging 16.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Damari Monsanto (10.7) and David Sloan (10.6) join Brewer in double figures for scoring, and Monsanto is also the team's leading rebounder at a 7.1 per game clip. Sloan mans the point for ETSU and has dished out 55 assists this season, but has also committed 41 turnovers to lead the team in both category.

Defensively, the Bucs are the SoCon's best, holding opponents to an average of 64.6 points per game through 14 contests; in 10 of the Bucs' 14 games, they have held their opponents to 70 points or fewer. However, ETSU is also the lowest scoring offense in the conference, averaging just 69.1 points per outing.

SoCon rivals since the 1979-80 season, Saturday's meeting will be the 65th in program history between the Bulldogs and the Bucs. ETSU holds a 47-17 advantage, a mark that includes a 24-7 record in games played in Johnson City. The Citadel will be eyeing its first win in the series since an 84-82 triumph on the road on Feb. 20, 2018; since then, the Bucs have claimed the four most recent meetings.

The Bulldogs will face a quick turnaround as they head back out on the road, heading north to take on ETSU on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. A SoCon rivalry dating back to the 1979-80 season, The Citadel will be seeking its first win over the Bucs since an 84-82 win in Johnson City on Feb. 20, 2018; since then, ETSU has claimed four straight wins over the 'Dogs.
