Game Information
Final Score: North Florida 2, The Citadel 1
Record: The Citadel (6-3-2), North Florida (3-0)
Location: Charleston, S.C. (WLI Field)
Series: North Florida leads 4-1

How It Happened
  • North Florida grabbed an early 1-0 lead out of the gate off Thais Reiss' strike in the fourth minute. Mikayla Bond and Leah Ferlin combined to get the ball to Reiss in space on the left side, and she fired past Jess Newton for the early advantage.
  • A flurry of four shots by The Citadel a few minutes later produced a good chance as Suzuka Yosue tested the Ospreys' goalkeeper but was unable to beat her for the quick equalizer.
  • Leanne Bryant nearly pulled the Bulldogs level in the 18th minute, getting power on a shot from distance but pulling the chance just wide to the right of the post as The Citadel continued its offensive pressure.
  • Amanda Hartmann doubled North Florida's lead just seconds after entering as a substitute at the 35:02 mark. Set up by a corner kick, Ariana Munoz played the ball down as Hartmann found the back of the net for the 2-0 lead that would hold up into the halftime break.
  • On the first real chance for either side of the second half, Maria Contreras went on a streaking run through the right side of the box and was not picked up by a defender before calmly burying a shot past the North Florida goalkeeper to cut the deficit in half with 51:26 on the clock.
  • Two minutes later, Bryant nearly leveled the match and tested Rachel Fishkin twice in less than a minute, but could not beat the keeper.
  • Over the final half-hour, neither side was able to break through as the Bulldogs' rally fell just short in the 2-1 defeat.

Inside the Numbers
  • Maria Contreras scored her second goal of the season on Tuesday afternoon. The senior also found the back of the net against Georgia Southern on Oct. 16; both of her strikes this season have been unassisted.
  • Contreras' goal gave her eight for her career and moved her into the top 20 on The Citadel's all-time goalscoring list. Contreras is also now tied for 14th in program history with 23 career points (eight goals, seven assists).
  • Leanne Bryant put a pair of shots on goal, the first time she has accomplished that feat since joining the Bulldogs as a graduate transfer prior to the season.
  • The Bulldogs have settled into an offensive flow and have scored at least one goal in six straight matches; in its 11 matches this season, The Citadel has scored at least once in all but two of those contests.
  • With three shots on Tuesday, Logan Dix has moved into a tie for seventh place on The Citadel's all-time career chart in the category; the senior has fired 126 shots across her storied career with the Bulldogs.

Up Next
With its non-conference slate in the books following Tuesday's match, The Citadel will have nine days off before heading out on the road to begin Southern Conference action with a pair of matches next weekend at Wofford (Friday, March 5 at 3 p.m.) and Furman (Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m.). At Wofford, the Bulldogs will be seeking to win their SoCon opener for the first time since the 2010 campaign.
