How It Happened
- Devyn Nyhart brought the ball down the right side and fired a cross into the box at the 1:35 mark, and Logan Dix turned and found the back of the net for the 10th time this season to give The Citadel a very early 1-0 advantage.
- The Spartans were able to pin the Bulldogs in their own defensive half for much of the next 20 minutes and attempted five shots over that span. Brie Sikes came up big for The Citadel with a trio of saves in the first 13 minutes of action to preserve the lead.
- At the 39:09 mark, UNCG was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the left side of the box, and Kaley Tucker equalized from the spot for the Spartans.
- Just 30 seconds before the halftime break, the Spartans added to their lead off the foot of Caroline Woods, who took Rachel Rouse's assist before firing past Sikes to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
- In the second half, neither side could get much going offensively for the first 30 minutes. The Citadel's first good opportunity of the half came on a shot from Megan McLaughlin from well outside the box; with the strong wind at her back, McLaughlin's shot pressured Abby Buchholz, but the Spartan keeper was able to make the save.
- Maddy Gilhool doubled UNCG's lead and reached the final scoreline at the 78:56 mark. Set up by Caroline Fiorella, Gilhool chipped past the charging Sikes and was left with no one between her and the face of the goal to make it 3-1.
Inside the Numbers
- Logan Dix became just the fifth player to score 10 goals in a single season for The Citadel and the first to do so since 2014, joining Kelly Presterfield, Julie Austin, Vanessa Aponte and Mariana Garcia, who accomplished the feat twice.
- Dix's goal at the 1:35 mark is the fastest ever scored by the Bulldogs from the beginning of a match, topping the previous record of 2:07 by Presterfield on Sept. 21, 2001.
- The shot for the goal was Dix's 29th shot on goal of the campaign, tying her for 10th place all-time on The Citadel's single-season charts in that category.
- Devyn Nyhart logged her first assist of the season on Dix's goal and now has five total points on the year.
- Brie Sikes made six saves on the day for The Citadel and now has six or more stops in three of her last four matches.
