Men's Basketball Attempts Season Sweep of ETSU Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel (11-14, 5-9) enters the final stretch of the regular season Saturday hosting ETSU (13-15, 5-10), tipping off a four-game stretch over eight days and three over five days.

ON THE RADIO, ESPN+
All games for the 2021-22 season will be carried on 102.1FM and 1450AM. The voice of the Bulldogs, Luke Mauro, returns for his fourth season behind the mic. The game can be seen on ESPN+ with Kyle West and Jason Kempf on the call.

WHAT'S TRENDING
The Citadel has a chance to post its first season sweep of ETSU since 1986-87. The Bulldogs have won two straight over the Bucs.

SLOW SHOOTING NIGHT AGAINST WOFFORD
The Citadel had its lowest shooting percentage of the season Wednesday against Wofford at 34.1 percent (15-of-44) and fewest field goal attempts. The Bulldogs worked through this, holding the Terriers to 40.7 percent (22-of-54) and mounting several late comeback attempts before the Terriers slowly pulled away in a 65-58 decision.

ROCHE'S LONG-RANGE PATH TO GLORY
Jason Roche became the first Bulldog in school history to hit at least seven 3-pointers in consecutive games, drilling seven at Furman on Feb. 2 and a career-high nine against Samford Feb. 5. His 97 triples (1st in SoCon) are most all-time for a freshman in one season at The Citadel and fourth-most overall. His nine threes on Samford were one off from the school record of ten set by three players, most recently Connor Kern in 2019. Roche also leads the SoCon with 36.0 minutes played per game.

RISING THROUGH THE RANKS!
Jason Roche moved into fourth all-time with 97 made threes this season. Hayden Brown earned his 24th career double-double (2nd all-time) Wednesday versus Wofford, with his 11 rebounds moving him up to sixth all-time with 661 career boards, while his 13 points gives him 1,293 career points for 13th all-time. Stephen Clark moved into fourth all-time with 60 season blocks, while his 122 career swats ranks fourth all-time.

TYLER MOFFE: A CAREER IN REVIEW
Making his 106th career NCAA start Feb. 16 versus Wofford, Tyler Moffe led the game with 20 points for his second 20-point game at The Citadel. His 21 points against Chattanooga on Jan. 29 marked the graduate point guard's highest-scoring game since his undergrad days at Mansfield University (NCAA Div. II) when he scored 23 points at Seton Hill on Nov. 23, 2019. All told, Moffe has 1,626 career points between his one season at Jamestown C.C. (N.Y.), three at Mansfield (Pa.), and the last two with The Citadel.

HISTORY WITH ETSU
ETSU leads the all-time series 48-19. The rivalry took a hiatus between 2005 and 2014 when ETSU became members of the ASUN, then returned to the SoCon for the 2014-15 season. Since then, the Buccaneers have led the series 11-4, although The Citadel has won the last two. A win will not only give the Bulldogs their first season sweep of ETSU since 1986-87, but also will match their longest win streak over the Bucs with three set in that same time frame.

SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS
ETSU has hit a rough patch since its loss to The Citadel on Jan. 22, winning just one of its last eight games. Their only triumph was at home against Furman by a 75-71 score on Feb. 7. Since then the Buccaneers have suffered defeats to Samford, 77-73, on Feb. 12 and at Mercer, 65-56, on Wednesday. David Sloan leads the SoCon in assists with 5.2 per game and 145 total. Jordan King is fourth in the league in both 3-pointers made (86) and 3-point field goal percentage (43.4).

THE LAST MEETING...
Saturday, Jan. 22: The Citadel 75, ETSU 73
The Bulldogs and Buccaneers dueled in a back-and-forth second half. ETSU led 63-58 before The Citadel answered to lead 67-65 with 4:01 to go. The Bucs' Ledarrius Brewer tied the game with free throws, then stole the ball on the next possession and appeared to have a breakaway dunk to take the lead, which bounced out. Rudy Fitzgibbons III made it hurt on the Bulldogs' next possession with a three to go ahead for good. Fitzgibbons scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half and tied for the game high with five assists. Hayden Brown collected 28 points.
