Hoops Heads to Mercer Wednesday for Regular Season Road Finale

MACON, Ga. - The Citadel (11-16, 5-11) makes its final road outing of the regular season on Wednesday to face Mercer (15-14, 8-8) at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs hope to overturn a three-game skid, most recently coming within a hair at Samford, 76-74, on Monday when their last-second 3-point attempt rimmed out.

ON THE RADIO, ESPN+
All games for the 2021-22 season will be carried on 102.1FM and 1450AM. The voice of the Bulldogs, Luke Mauro, returns for his fourth season behind the mic. The game can be seen on ESPN+.

WHAT'S TRENDING
Hayden Brown has combined for 37 rebounds the last two games with 18 Saturday and 19 Monday. He is two boards away from becoming the fourth person ever to reach 700 career rebounds.

DOWN TO THE WIRE AT SAMFORD
The Citadel was inches away from a game-winning 3-point attempt by Tyler Moffe that rimmed out in the closing seconds at Samford Monday. This "Battle of the Bulldogs" saw the Birmingham school come away with a 76-74 win. 

BROWN PULLING DOWN REBOUNDS
Forward Hayden Brown has totaled 37 rebounds the last two games with 18 against ETSU Saturday and 19 at Samford Monday, becoming the first person to grab at least 18 boards in back-to-back games.

ROCHE'S LONG-RANGE PATH TO GLORY
Jason Roche became the first Bulldog in school history to hit at least seven 3-pointers in consecutive games, drilling seven at Furman on Feb. 2 and a career-high nine against Samford Feb. 5. His 102 triples (2nd in SoCon, 4th in NCAA) leads the NCAA Division I for freshmen and stands most all-time for a freshman in one season at The Citadel and third-most overall. Roche also leads the SoCon with 35.9 minutes played per game.

RISING THROUGH THE RANKS!
Jason Roche has 102 threes this season, further cementing his school freshman record that ranks third all-time, tied with Travis Cantrell's 2001-02 total. Hayden Brown earned his 26th career double-double (2nd all-time) Monday at Samford, giving him his second-highest game total of his career with 19 (3rd all-time) to move into fourth all-time with 698 career boards, while his 17 points gives him 1,327 career points for 11th all-time. Stephen Clark had four blocks Monday to tie for second-most blocks in one season with 67 alongside Kirill Misyuchenko's 1997-98 total. Clark's 129 career swats ranks fourth all-time.

TYLER MOFFE: A CAREER IN REVIEW
Making his 108th career NCAA start Monday at Samford, Tyler Moffe nearly had his third straight 20-point game and fourth ever at The Citadel with a team-best 18 points. His 21 points against Chattanooga on Jan. 29 marked the graduate point guard's highest-scoring game since his undergrad days at Mansfield University (NCAA Div. II) when he scored 23 points at Seton Hill on Nov. 23, 2019. All told, Moffe has 1,664 career points between his one season at Jamestown C.C. (N.Y.), three at Mansfield (Pa.), and the last two with The Citadel.

STEPHEN CLARK'S BLOCK PARTY
Stephen Clark had four blocks Monday to up his season total to 67 to tie for second all-time and his career total to 129 for fourth all-time.

THE 1,200-600 CLUB
Hayden Brown reached the 600 career rebound milestone at Wofford on Jan. 19 and 1,200 career points versus Chattanooga on Jan. 29, becoming the eighth person ever to reach the 1,200-600 club. He is on pace to become the third Bulldog ever to eclipse 1,300 career points and 700 career rebounds. 

THE LAST MEETING...
Monday, Jan. 17: Mercer 71, The Citadel 64

In what was otherwise a closely-contested game, a slow shooting night for the Bulldogs played factor in the final score, making just 36.2 percent of field goals (21-58) and only 5-of-24 threes. The Bears on the other hand made 46.3 percent (25-54) and 8-of-22 treys, including a 55.6 percent second half (15-27). Stephen Clark and Hayden Brown nearly mounted double-doubles, with Clark posting a game-high 18 points with nine rebounds and Brown 16 points and eight boards. 

HISTORY WITH MERCER
Mercer holds a 21-7 lead in the all-time series, including 13-3 since becoming SoCon foes in 2014-15. The two have met only once in the postseason in 2016, where the Bears won a narrow 71-69 opening-round SoCon Tournament showdown.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Mercer is 10-3 on its home court this year. They sit at an even 8-8 in SoCon play after enduring a 69-65 defeat at Western Carolina on Saturday. Redshirt Senior forward Felipe Haase ranks tenth in the SoCon in scoring at 15.0 ppg. and first in free throw percentage at 86.9 (86-99).

The Citadel will recognize graduating players Hayden Brown, Jerry Higgins III, Robert Guyton, and Tyler Moffe this Saturday when the Bulldogs host Furman in their regular season finale.
