Bulldogs Begin Midweek Play Against CSU

GAME NOTES

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel plays its first midweek game of the 2023 season as they welcome Charleston Southern down the interstate on Feb. 21. First pitch from Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park is set for 3 p.m. The contest is the first of four meetings between the two teams during the season.

The Citadel and Charleston Southern are meeting for the 98th time on the diamond with the Bulldogs holding a 61-36 advantage in the series.


First of 4 With Bucs
Tuesday's contest marks the first of four contests between the two teams. They will meet twice inside Riley Park and twice in North Charleston.


First Midweek Game
Tuesday is the first of 12 scheduled midweek games during the 2023 season. It marks the second-straight season that Charleston Southern will serve as the opponent for the first midweek game of the year.


Season-Opening Sweep
The Citadel completed the three-game sweep over Delaware State with an 11-10 win on Sunday. It marked the second-straight season the Bulldogs opened the season with a series sweep.


Five-Run Ninth
The Bulldogs scored five runs in the ninth inning to walk-off Delaware State in the second game of the season. The Citadel had been shutout in the first eight innings.


Montenery Walk-Off Single
Luke Montenery capped the five-run ninth inning with a two-out, two-run single to left center in the 5-4 victory. It was the first walk-off hit of his career.


21-Run Opener
The Citadel offense was in midseason form in the season opener as the Bulldogs scored 21 runs against Delaware State. It is the most runs scored in a season opener dating back to 1965. The previous high was 17 runs against Washington & Lee on Feb. 18, 1982.


10 Spot
The Citadel offense put up a 10-spot in the fourth inning of the season opener against Delaware State. It was the first 10-run inning since scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning against Siena on March 13, 2022.


Rollauer Hits Grand Slam in Debut
Thomas Rollauer had a very impressive debut as a Bulldog as he hit a grand slam as part of a six RBI game in the season opener.


On Deck
The Bulldogs continue their home stand as they welcome Lehigh to Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Feb. 24-26. The series opener is set for 3 p.m.
