AWENDAW, S.C. – The Citadel women's soccer team picked up a hard-fought Southern Conference victory on Friday afternoon, defeating Chattanooga 2–1 at Shea Family Field. The match was relocated from WLI Field due to poor weather conditions, as the Bulldogs battled through to earn three crucial points.
With the win, The Citadel improved to 5-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league play, while the Mocs fell to 8-4-3 and 2-2-2 in SoCon action.
After a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs broke through in the 58th minute when
Samantha Grantham netted her second goal of the season off an assist from
Nina Markie, putting The Citadel ahead 1–0.
Chattanooga found the equalizer in the 81st minute, but the Bulldogs quickly responded. Just three minutes later,
Charlotte Seay delivered the game-winner in the 84th minute, burying a strike to secure the 2–1 victory.
In goal,
Zoe Santos was sensational for The Citadel, making 13 saves to withstand a heavy offensive push from the Mocs.
