CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Citadel (6-2-2, 1-1-0 SoCon) fell to Chattanooga (5-1-4, 1-0-1 SoCon), 3-0, Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference action.

Chattanooga scored twice in a span of just over three minutes during the first half before adding its third goal early in the second. The Bulldogs generated five of their seven shots after halftime but were unable to break through. Chattanooga finished with a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in shots on goal. The Citadel earned three corner kicks compared with seven for the Mocs.

"As tough a Sunday test as we could have gotten at Chattanooga today," head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "We started the game really well but didn't take advantage of a couple of good early chances to put Chattanooga under pressure. I didn't think there was much in it in the first half, and then we conceded a third early in the second. The conditions were tough, but the whole squad contributed and kept pushing right until the end. There were some good learning moments that will hopefully serve us well down the stretch. On to the next one."

First Half

Chattanooga controlled the early chances before Zoe Santos made her first save at 19:55, denying Quinn Johnson.
The Mocs opened the scoring at 21:10 when Elise Nystrom finished off an assist from Johnson to give Chattanooga a 1-0 advantage.
Chattanooga doubled its lead just 3:19 later as Paige Thomas scored off a feed from Emily Betterton at 24:29.
Samantha Grantham recorded The Citadel's first shot at 25:55 before Caelynn January added another attempt in the 37th minute.
Santos made another save at 31:18 as Chattanooga carried a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Mocs held a 9-2 advantage in shots through the opening 45 minutes.

Second Half

Chattanooga extended its advantage to 3-0 at 50:25 when Johnson scored off an assist from EG Dillard.
The Bulldogs responded with their first shot on goal at 56:27 as Alixandria Fletcher tested Chattanooga goalkeeper Addie Taylor, who made the save.
January followed with an attempt in the 63rd minute as The Citadel looked to cut into the deficit.
The Bulldogs continued to push late, with Fletcher, Charlotte Seay and Reese Denson each recording shots over the final eight minutes.
Santos made her third save of the afternoon at 84:32, denying Johnson's attempt.

Fletcher and January led The Citadel with two shots apiece, while Fletcher recorded the Bulldogs' lone attempt on goal. Grantham, Seay and Denson each added one shot. Santos played all 90 minutes and finished with three saves.

Up next, The Citadel returns to Washington Light Infantry Field to host UNCG on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m.
