CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel basketball team continues the longest running rivalry in the Southern Conference on Friday when it faces rival Furman in the opening round of the SoCon Tournament at U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C., at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The game marks the eighth all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Paladins in the Southern Conference Tournament since The Citadel joined the league in 1936. Furman holds a 5-2 lead in the postseason series, however The Citadel won the most recent meeting in 2006.

The Citadel (11-18, 6-12 SoCon) is looking to win opening round games in the SoCon Tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history after an 88-78 victory over UNCG in 2014.

The seventh seeded Bulldogs are led offensively by first team all-conference selection
Ashton Moore who finished off the regular season by averaging 18.3 ppg. Complementing him in the post is senior
P.J. Horgan who pulled down 185 rebounds (6.4 rpg).

Furman (8-21, 5-13 SoCon) enters the tournament as the 10
th seed and is led by Stephen Croone (17.2 ppg) as well as SoCon media and coaches Freshman of the Year selection Devin Sibley (10.1).

The two teams split the regular season series by winning on each other's home court. The Bulldogs won the most recent meeting, 62-56, in overtime at Timmons Arena on Feb. 19.
