BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Citadel wrestling team fell to Campbell in Buies Creek, North Carolina, on Thursday 19-16. The Bulldogs are 4-7 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference competition.

With things all knotted up at 16, it all came down to the 285 bout which pitted
Joe Bexley and Jere Heino against each other in a rematch of the January 9th dual at the Virginia Duals. Heino recorded an escape in the second period but Bexley countered with a two-point takedown to give the junior a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, but Heino recorded a two-point takedown of his own in the third and Bexley (9-11) dropped the bout by a 3-2 decision.

Matt Frisch,
Aaron Walker and
Marshall Haas continued to anchor the lineup as all three picked up wins. Frisch (16-7) won by a 4-0 decision and is now just one win shy of 100 wins in his career. The senior will have ample opportunities to secure that victory at the All Academy Championships on Saturday. Walker (19-5) continued his winning ways, picking up a 14-3 major decision and his 11th dual win of the season. Haas improved to 18-7 on the year after beating Austin McNeil by an 8-3 decision.

Ty Buckiso and
Tim Knipl were the other two Bulldogs to collect wins on the night. Buckiso (13-10) earned an 8-4 decision over Lucas Stewart to give The Citadel its first points of the night. Knipl moved to 9-15 this season after tallying an 8-4 decision win.

The Citadel is back in action on Saturday for the All Academy Championships in Lexington, Virginia. Eight teams will take part in the all-day tournament. Live stats will be available at CitadelSports.com.
