Bulldogs Host Wildcats Wednesday

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
 The Citadel men's basketball team plays one game this week before taking a break from competition to focus on exams. The Citadel hosts Johnson & Wales (Charlotte) for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
Wednesday's 7 p.m. home game against Johnson & Wales (Charlotte) will be Hospitality and Food & Beverage Night. The Bulldogs' Toys for Tots Toy Drive will continue with fans being admitted for $5 if they bring a new, unwrapped toy to the game. The game will be sponsored by TD Bank and will feature a halftime performance by Southern Elite Dance Academy.

NEXT UP
Following the exam break, the Bulldogs will close out the current four-game homestand with a game against Southeast Missouri State out of the Ohio Valley Conference on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. The game, which will be sponsored by Ashley Furniture and Seels, will feature free tickets for kids 12 and under with the purchase of one adult ticket. It will also feature a halftime performance by the Charleston Sparks. The game will be the final date of the Toys for Tots Toy Drive.

BREAKING A 91-YEAR STREAK
On Saturday, Dec. 1, The Citadel defeated Mercer 79-69, marking the first win over Mercer for the Bulldogs in Charleston since March 5, 1927. The 1926-27 Bulldogs defeated the Bears 42-41 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament. The last regular-season win in Charleston for The Citadel over Mercer came back on Feb. 12, 1927, a 38-33 win.

WINNING THE SOCON OPENER
The win over Mercer marked the first time the Bulldogs won the Southern Conference opener since the 2010-11 season. That Citadel team defeated Georgia Southern at home, 65-52, on Dec. 2.

FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK
The current four-game winning streak is the longest since the 2010-11 team won four games in a row over Samford, Appalachian State, Western Carolina and Davidson from Jan. 17-26.

STALLWORTH PICKS UP SECOND STRAIGHT SOCON WEEKLY HONOR
For the second straight week, Citadel men's basketball player Lew Stallworth has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week by both the league office and College Sports Madness. Stallworth, a graduate transfer from Los Angeles, California, is the first back-to-back and repeat winner of the weekly award this season. The last player to earn back-to-back SoCon Player of the Week honors from the league office was UNCG's Derrell Armstrong during the 2011-12 season (Jan. 24, Jan. 31). Bulldog great Regan Truesdale (1981-85) was the last Citadel player to earn the award in back-to-back weeks during the 1984-85 season (Week 1, Week 2). Zane Najdawi was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week twice last season (Jan. 16, Feb. 6). He led the Bulldogs to a 2-0 record last week, including starting SoCon play with a win for the first time since the 2010-11 season and The Citadel's first home win over Mercer since 1927. The Bulldogs' starting point guard nearly averaged a triple double in the two games with 15 points, 8.5 assists and 8.0 rebounds per contest, while shooting nearly 60 percent from the field and recorded a double-double in both games last week,

STALLWORTH NATIONALLY
Stallworth enters the week tied for 15th in the nation with 53 assists and tied for 16th with an average of 6.6 assists per contest. Stallworth is also tied for 39th in the nation with his three double-doubles.

FRIERSON NATIONALLY
Matt Frierson enters the week second in NCAA Division I, and tops in the SoCon, with an average of 5.13 3-pointers per game. His 41 made treys so far this season also ranks second in the nation and tops in the conference. He is also fifth in the country, and third in the league, with 85 3-point attempts.

THE BULLDOGS NATIONALLY
The Citadel ranks in the top 50 in NCAA Division I in 10 statistical categories, including leading the nation in scoring (100.0 points per game) and 3-pointers made per game (15.0). The 'Dogs are secnd in total 3-pointers made (120) and total 3-point field goals attempted (295) and eighth in assists per game (19.1). The Citadel is also 13th in total assists (153), 20th in 3-point field goal percentage (.407), 21st in field goal percentage (.502), 28th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.46) and tied for 44th in steals per game (8.4).

FAST START UNDER BAUCOM
The Bulldogs have started the season off 6-2 for the first time since Pat Dennis' 2004-05 team. That team earned wins over Army, Washington & Lee, Chowan, Voorhees, Atlanta Christian (now Point University) and Savannah State.

FRIERSON KEEPING THE STREAK ALIVE
Frierson connected on four 3-pointers Saturday against Mercer, marking the 31st time in his career the senior has made at least four treys. He has now made at least one 3-pointer in 46 consecutive games. Frierson now has 261 career 3-pointers made, a mark that has him second all time in program history. He needs 34 to tie Bulldog great Zach Urbanus (2007-11) for the program record.

BLOCK PARTY FOR NAJDAWI
Najdawi swatted away three shots Saturday afternoon, marking the 44th time in his career the senior forward has recorded multiple blocks in a game. He is second all time in program history with 157 career blocks.

CLOSING IN ON THE TOP 10
Najdawi's 18 points Saturday afternoon gave him 1,301 for his career. He is just 20 points from matching Urbanus and Patrick Elmore (1983-84, 88-90) for 10th in program history.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Johnson & Wales comes into Wednesday's game with a 4-3 overall record, including a 2-2 mark on the road, and are riding a two-game winning streak. The Wildcats, a member of the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference (EMAC) of the United States Collegiate Athletic Assocation (USCAA), boast wins over Clinton College (2), Toccoa Falls and Webber International. They have also played UNCG, falling 105-57 to the Spartans. The Wildcats average 77.4 points per game, while giving up 77.7 points per contest and are shooting 42 percent from the field and 29.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. Majerle Poole leads the team with 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Poole is currently shooting 40 percent from the field on the year. Robert Hobson and Kajuan Madden-McAfee are second and third on the team in scoring. Hobson averages 13.1 points per game and Madden-McAfee averages 9.3. Madden-McAfee, Christian Creswell and Malik Bullock have started all seven games for the 'Cats with Poole and Hobson each starting six games. Poole leads the team with 25.1 minutes per contest.
