CHARLESTON, S.C. – This week The Citadel basketball team will play one Southern Conference game on the road before returning home to host rival VMI in the annual Pack the Mac game.
The Bulldogs start the week off with a 7 p.m. tipoff at UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The 'Dogs will then host the Keydets on Saturday, Feb. 8 for a 1 p.m. game.
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
Saturday's game, which is presented by APECS (Asia-Pacific Engineering Consulting Services), will serve as the Bulldogs' Military Appreciation game with active-duty members of the armed forces able to purchase $5 tickets. The game will also serve as Girls and Women in Sports Day, which is celebrated nation-wide on Feb. 5.
PACK THE MAC
The Bulldogs' annual Pack the Mac event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 against VMI. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m., and the entire South Carolina Corps of Cadets will be in attendance. The game will also serve as The Citadel's annual Military Appreciation Day, and The Citadel Athletics will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day at the game as well.
LAST TIME OUT
With 5:43 left in regulation,
Tyson Batiste hit his lone 3-pointer of the game to put The Citadel basketball team up by one, 57-56. The Bulldogs had battled back from being down by as many as 11 in the first half, but Mercer retook the lead and went on to defeat the Bulldogs 76-71. After shooting 33.3% (8-of-24) in the first half, the Bulldogs started the second half by connecting on 12 of their first 13 shots (.923). The 'Dogs ended the game shooting 54.2% (26-of-48), including 75.0% (18-of-24) in the second period. Mercer ended the game shooting 50.9% (28-of-55) from the field, but the Bears shot 85.7% (12-of-14) from the free throw line compared to 50.0%( 10-of-20) for the 'Dogs. The Bears out-rebounded the Bulldogs 31-24.
Kaiden Rice led all scorers with 17 points, including a game-high four 3-pointers. Rice matched his season high with six rebounds. Freshman
Stephen Clark scored a season-high 14 points off 7-of-11 shooting (.636). Clark also had season highs in assists (4) and steals (3).
Fletcher Abee and
Kaelon Harris each scored 12 points with Abee converted a trio of 3-pointers, while Harris went 4-for-7 (.571) from the field.
Daniel Love led five Bears in double figures with 14 points.

rd with 122 total assists.

RICE BEYOND THE ARC NATIONALLY
Rice enters the week tied for 27
th in NCAA Division I with an average of 3.0 made 3-pointers per game. The junior guard is also tied for 30
th in the nation with 171 3-point field goals attempted and tied for 35
th with 63 made 3-pointers.
RICE CLOSING IN
Rice boasts 64 made 3-pointers on the year, which has him eight away from cracking the top 15 in program history for 3-pointers made in a season.
SURPASSING 800
On Feb. 1, Harris eclipsed the 800-point mark for his career, ending the game with 809 career points.
ABEE CONTINUING TO MAKE MOVES
In the Feb. 1 game at Mercer, Abee converted three 3-pointers to move up into sole possession of eighth in program history for 3-pointers made by a freshman. Abee now boasts 54 on the year, and he is one made 3-pointer away from seventh and four away from sixth.
FRESHMAN SCORING
Abee has scored 245 points so far this season. He is 12 points away from cracking the top 15 in program history for points scored by a freshman.

THE HISTORY WITH UNC GREENSBORO
UNC Greensboro boasts an all-time record of 29-9 over The Citadel on the hardwood, including a 14-3 record in Greensboro. The Spartans are 26-4 all-time in regular-season Southern Conference games against the Bulldogs and have won the last 12 in the series with the last Citadel victory being an 85-83 road win in overtime on Jan. 5, 2015.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
UNCG enters Wednesday's game with a 17-6 record overall, including 7-3 in Southern Conference contests and 10-3 at home. The Spartans most recently fell to ETSU, 82-65, snapping a five-game winning streak. Prior to the loss to the Bucs, the Spartans' last loss was also against ETSU, 64-57, at home on Jan. 8. The Spartans are currently averaging 73.0 points per game compared to allowing 60.3 points per outing, a +12.7 point differential, which is 17
th in the nation. UNCG is shooting 43.4% on the year, while their opponents have converted field goals at a .415 clip. From 3-point range, UNCG averages 8.5 made 3-pointers per game while shooting 31.6% from beyond the arc. In comparison, their foes have converted 33.6% of their treys, averaging 6.7 treys per outing. Under the basket, UNCG averages 36.6 boards per game, and their opponents average 33.5.
UNCG INDIVIDUALLY
Isaiah Miller is the only player on UNCG's roster to average double-figure scoring. Miller's 18.7 points per game leads the SoCon, and his 64 assists, 62 steals and 50 made free throws lead the team. Five other Spartans are currently averaging at least 7.0 points per game, including

Malik Massey have started all 23 games with Galloway having started 18 games and Hunter having started 15.
THE HISTORY WITH VMI
Saturday will mark the 114
th meeting on the hardwood between the Bulldogs and Keydets in a series that dates back to the 1920-21 season. The Citadel holds a 58-55 record over the Keydets, including 34-20 in Charleston. The two teams split the series last season with each team winning on its home court, and VMI won the first meeting this season.
SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
VMI enters the week 6-17 overall with a 1-9 record in conference play. The Keydets are 0-10 on the road. VMI will host Wofford on Wednesday before heading to Charleston for Saturday's Pack the Mac game. VMI averages 72.2 points per game while giving up 69.6 points per outing. The Keydets are second in the nation with an average of 10.7 made 3-pointers per game and third with 245 made treys. VMI has connected on 42.7% of its attempts from the field compared to 44.1% by the opposition. The Keydets have converted 35.5% of their 3-point attempts, just ahead of their foes' percentage of 34.1% from beyond the arc.
VMI INDIVIDUALLY
Three Keydets lead VMI in scoring with double-digit points highlighted by
Travis Evee's 12.5 points per contest. Behind Evee, who has 55 made 3-pointers on the year,
Garrett Gilkeson averages 10.3 points per game, including converting 33 3-pointers, and
Kamdyn Curfman leads the team with 60 made 3-pointers while averaging 10.0 points per game. Gilkeson and
Tyler Creammer lead the team in rebounding with Gilkeson bringing down 5.7 boards per contest and Creammer adding 5.2.
Jake Stephens leads the team with 18 blocked shots to go along with 6.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing. Of players who have taken at least 100 shots, Evee leads the way with a .463 shooting percentage from the field. Curfman and Gilkeson are the only two players to have started all 23 games, while
Myles Lewis has started 22 of the 23 games he has appeared in. Stephens has started 18 games and
Greg Parham and Evee have each started 12.
COMING UP
Next week, the Bulldogs will start their week off with a road trip to Johnson City, Tennessee before returning home to host Samford. The 'Dogs will take on ETSU on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. The Citadel then hosts Samford at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Fans attending ticketed athletic events at The Citadel this year are reminded of the new clear bag policy that has been implemented. Under the policy, fans will be allowed to bring with them a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a one-gallon plastic bag (such as Ziploc or Hefty bags).
